Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide means by which a civic location of a target mobile device may be determined using crowdsourced information from other mobile devices. The information can include information regarding Access Points (APs) and/or other access nodes obtained by the other mobile devices, as well as respective locations of the other mobile devices. A server, for example, can use this information to determine a coverage heatmap for each AP. Coverage heatmaps can be used, along with civic location information, to determine a civic location of a target mobile device based on the target mobile device's detection and possible measurements of wireless signals from one or more of the APs.

Abstract: During a positioning session between a user equipment (UE) and a location server, the location server may send the base station a request to suspend the Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection with the UE. For example, the location server may send a request to the base station recommending suspension of the connection or may provide an indication of the amount of time during which position related messages between the UE and the location server are not expected. The base station may determine whether to suspend the connection with the UE, thereby placing the UE in an inactive state based on the information provided. The base station may further determine whether to suspend the connection based on data activity of the UE. While in an inactive state, the UE and base station store UE connection context, which may be used to quickly resume the connection.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network using a Location Management Function (LMF) based control plane (CP) location solution. The LMF serves as the main anchor point for location support instead of an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The LMF may be in either a serving Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) for a UE or in a Home PLMN for a roaming UE. The LMF may obtain location information for a UE via an AMF from a Next Generation Radio Access Network or the UE and may interact with a Gateway Mobile Location Center to receive location requests from and return location information to an external client. The LMF solution may be more efficient and require less implementation than an AMF based CP location solution.

Abstract: With satellite wireless access, a network node (e.g. AMF) may receive a NAS request from a UE, forwarded by a RAN node (e.g. gNB), where the NAS request includes a tracking area (TA) identity (TAI) indicating a TA in which the UE is located. The network node may then determine that the TAI is not part of a registration area for the UE, although the NAS request is not a NAS Registration. The network node may then instigate an immediate Registration of the UE, e.g., by rejecting the NAS request and sending an indication to the UE to Register, or a deferred Registration, e.g., by performing a NAS procedure for the NAS request and sending an indication to the UE to Register. The AMF may alternatively perform an implicit Registration of the UE, where the AMF performs Registration without receiving a Registration Request from the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network entity (e.g., a satellite) may receive control signaling indicating a discontinuous service coverage at a user equipment (UE). The network entity may transmit coverage assistance information indicating a discontinuous service coverage pattern to the UE. The UE, the network entity, or both may determine one or more parameters for a power saving mode at the UE, such as a duration of an active time, a duration of an inactive time, a duration of a keep alive time, or a combination thereof based on the coverage assistance information. In some cases, the UE may transmit an indication of the power saving mode parameters to the network entity. The network entity may transmit a control message to the UE in accordance with the parameters.

Abstract: Methods and systems for wireless communication are provided. Abstract: Access, mobility management and regulatory services are supported for satellite access to a Fifth Generation (5G) core network (5GCN). Signaling including data and voice for radio cells supported by a satellite is transported between UEs and a core network via an earth station. When the satellite is transferred to a new earth station, the signaling can be transferred to the new earth station and possibly to a new base station. The UEs may remain with their current radio cells with a regenerative satellite or be assisted to remain with their current radio cells with a transparent satellite. The signaling transfer between the earth stations may occur at a Level 1 or Level 2. A modified handover procedure may be used with a regenerative satellite with split architecture when there is a change of base station.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for limiting a size of LTE Positioning Protocol (LPP) messages in a location session between a user equipment and location server. In one embodiment, a first device sends a first LPP message to a second device, indicating that the first device is capable of receiving segmented LPP messages. Subsequently, the first device receives a plurality of LPP message segments from the second device comprising one or more non-final LPP message segments and a final LPP message segment, where each LPP message segment includes a “non-final” or “final” indication. The first device stores the non-final LPP message segments and processes the LPP message segments after receiving the final LPP message segment. Prior to sending the first LPP message, the first device may receive an LPP message from the second device indicating the second device is capable of sending segmented LPP messages.

Abstract: User equipment (UE) access to a non-terrestrial network (NTN) via a satellite to a Fifth Generation (5G) public land mobile network (PLMN) is supported using fixed tracking areas (TAs) and fixed cells. The fixed TAs and fixed cells are defined in the NTN independently of NTN radio cells. Network elements in the NTN are provided with configuration information for the fixed TAs and fixed cells from a server (e.g., an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) server). The configuration information includes location related information for the fixed TAs and fixed cells, which may not be standardized. The network entities perform one or more services for the UE based on the location related information for the fixed TAs and fixed cells, such as determining a fixed TA or fixed serving cell for a UE, locating the UE, routing emergency calls, and supporting wireless emergency alerting (WEA).
