摘要: An inhalation device is provided for use with an aerosol container having a body portion and a discharge stem movable with respect to the body portion from a rest position in which discharge is prevented to an operative position in which discharge takes place. The device has a housing for the inhalation device, and an outlet provided in the housing through which a patient can inhale. A restraining and pressure-sensing member is provided in the form of a resiliently flexible plate. The plate has a first position in which it prevents relative movement between the discharge stem and the body portion to the operative position and a second position in which it permits such movement. The plate senses when a reduced pressure is produced through inhalation by the patient and moves from the first position to the second position in response thereto.

摘要: An oral inhalation apparatus having a flow responsive valve associated therewith for controlling the flow of medication from an aerosol canister into one's lungs. An aerosol canister is received within a housing and the outlet thereof is received within a tubular passageway so that when the canister is pressed down respective to the housing, the valve means associated with the canister is moved to the open position. A second valve means is positioned downstream of the canister valve means and is spring loaded into the normally closed position. When the patient places a mouthpiece of the apparatus within his mouth and inhales, a sail device is moved downstream in reaction to the flow of inhaled air, thereby moving the second valve to the open position which releases medication into the mouthpiece. Consequently, when the patient initially depresses the canister, thereby opening the canister valve, there is no flow from the canister. However, when the patient inhales, the sail actuated valve is moved to the open position and medication is released into the mouthpiece and flows into the mouth, throat, and lungs. At the end of the inhalation, the sail returns the valve to the closed position. Therefore, medication can flow from the canister only during the time when one is properly inhaling. Another embodiment of the invention is provided for the ease of use by severely ill asthmatics, wherein a movable rubber ring is used to adjust the tension in the spring loading mechanism. When the rubber band is moved down sufficiently, upon depressing the canister, a slow, controlled flow of the medication aerosol issues without need for deep inhalation by the patient. Where such a device is deemed adequate, one can eliminate the sail altogether.

摘要: The present invention relates to dispensers, in particular to dispensers for dispensing a dose of a gaseous, gas borne or droplet substance from a substance source and dispensers comprising dosage counters. The present invention therefore provides a dispenser for dispensing a dose of a gaseous, gas borne or droplet substance from a substance source, the dispenser comprising: a body (1) for receiving a substance source, the body having a mouthpiece (2); a junction member (41) slideably arranged in the body for movement in a longitudinal axis of the body to release a dose of a substance from a substance source (C), the junction member receiving a spout (S) of a substance source in a socket (43); and a dispenser driver for moving the junction member in the longitudinal axis of the body to release a dose of a substance from a substance source. A cam follower (16) is slideably arranged within the body having rigid protrusions (18a, 18b) projecting from a base (17) and the protrusion being arranged between the dispenser driver and the junction member such that a force applied by the cam of the dispenser driver to the protrusion causes the cam follower to slideably move in the longitudinal axis of the body and apply a force to the junction member so as to release a dose of a substance from a substance source. The dispenser also comprises a dispenser cap (91) comprising a hollow body having a lower open end (92) engageable with the body, and an upper open end (94) for receiving a cap closure device (120) for closing the upper open end. The dispenser also comprises a dose counter (203) for indicating a number of actuations of the dispenser corresponding to a number of doses dispensed from a substance source, or a number of doses remaining in a substance source, the dose counter comprising: a first ring member (202) having a first indicia and being rotatable in increments about the longitudinal axis, the first indicia indicating a count; and a limiting member comprising a limiting mechanism (1506), wherein the limiting mechanism comprises an engaging portion arranged to act radially with respect to the first ring member to contact the first ring member to limit free rotation of the first member relative to the limiting member about the axis.

摘要: A powder aerosolization apparatus comprises a housing comprising an outlet adapted to be inserted into a user's mouth and one or more bypass air openings. A receptacle support within the housing supports a receptacle containing a powder pharmaceutical formulation. A puncturing mechanism within the housing creates in the receptacle one or more inlet openings and one or more powder outflow openings, wherein the powder outflow openings have a total area of from 0.2 mm2 to 4.0 mm2. Upon a user's inhalation through the outlet, air flows through the one or more bypass air openings and through the receptacle to aerosolize the powder pharmaceutical formulation in the receptacle. In one version, the relative flow parameters between the flow through the one or more bypass openings and the one or more powder outflow openings are selected so that flow of aerosolized pharmaceutical formulation does not occur until a predetermined inhalation flow rate is achieved.

摘要: A simulated cigarette device with a substantially cylindrical cigarette-like shape comprising a reservoir of a pressurized composition including an inhalable substance and a propellant. A refill valve is in communication with the reservoir via which the reservoir is refilled. A breath-activated valve selectively controls the flow through a reservoir outlet and hence through an inhaling outlet in the device. The size of the reservoir, the pressure within the reservoir and the size of the reservoir outlet at its narrowest point are arranged so that, when the breath-activated valve is fully opened, the reservoir will discharge in less than 30 seconds.
