    摘要: A DSL transmitter and receiver are disclosed that are capable of accurately measuring crosstalk in G.vector-compliant DSL lines resulting from a legacy line. During crosstalk measurement, the legacy line can be placed in a showtime mode. Once in showtime mode, a data signal designated for the legacy line is reduced in power spectrum density and/or spectrum to reduce its effects on crosstalk measurements. An O-P-Vector-1 signal is then superposed on the reduced data signal, and the resulting test signal is transmitted over the legacy line while sync signals are transmitted over neighboring G.vector lines. The receiver can then accurately measure the crosstalk on the neighboring lines, and report back to the transceiver for adjustments. A similar configuration can be performed in a diagnostic mode of the legacy line.

    摘要: Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.

The method includes applying a pilot signal to a disturber twisted pair and measuring near end crosstalk of a victim twisted pair. The coupling characteristics between the disturber and the victim twisted pair are determined. A far end crosstalk function is derived for estimating the far end crosstalk in the victim twisted pair using the determined coupling characteristics. A crosstalk reduction signal is determined using the estimated far end cross talk. The crosstalk reduction signal is injected into the victim twisted pair to reduce crosstalk in the victim twisted pair.

The method is based on the insight that line termination equipment, such as a DSLAM, and in particular the crosstalk canceller, can be used to simulate a multiline network. A signal is exchanged between the line termination equipment and attached network termination equipment, passing through the crosstalk canceller which acts as a multiline simulator. Information indicative of an error component in a received version of the signal is used to assess the operation the vectoring system.
