Abstract:
A nozzle hole of a conductive nozzle plate exposes the liquid surface of conductive ink. Ultrasonic generation means vibrates the ink for forming fine surface waves on the liquid surface so that the ink is sprayed from the nozzle hole as an atomized liquid particle group. A back plate provided on the opposite side of the nozzle hole in relation to a printing paper is supplied with a potential different from that for the nozzle plate, so that an electric field is formed therebetween. The sprayed liquid particle group is charged and hence urged by this electric field to adhere to the printing paper.
Abstract:
A process for preparing an ultraviolet-ray-absorbable and low water-containing soft contact lens, characterized by immersing a low water-containing soft contact lens in a solution (I) prepared by dissolving an ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent in a swelling solution, permeating the ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent to the inside of a swollen low water-containing soft contact lens, and then removing the swelling solution used for swelling of the low water-containing soft contact lens. According to the process, the ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent can be physically captured to the inside of the contact lens to impart ultraviolet-ray absorbability to the contact lens without elution of ultraviolet-ray absorbing agent and the ultraviolet-ray-absorbable and low water-containing soft contact lens can be prepared without inhibition of polymerization.
Abstract:
An electrospray device, a liquid chromatography device and an electrosprayliquid chromatography system are disclosed. The electrospray device comprises a substrate defining a channel between an entrance orifice on an injection surface and an exit orifice on an ejection surface, a nozzle defined by a portion recessed from the ejection surface surrounding the exit orifice, and an electrode for application of an electric potential to the substrate to optimize and generate an electrospray; and, optionally, additional electrode(s) to further modify the electrospray. The liquid chromatography device comprises a separation substrate defining an introduction channel between an entrance orifice and a reservoir and a separation channel between the reservoir and an exit orifice, the separation channel being populated with separation posts perpendicular to the fluid flow; a cover substrate bonded to the separation substrate to enclose the reservoir and the separation channel adjacent the cover substrate; and, optionally, electrode(s) for application of a electric potential to the fluid. The exit orifice of the liquid chromatography device may be homogeneously interfaced with the entrance orifice of the electrospray device to form an integrated single system. An array of multiple systems may -be fabricated in a single monolithic chip for rapid sequential fluid processing and generation of electrospray for subsequent analysis, such as by positioning the exit orifices of the electrospray devices near the sampling orifice of a mass spectrometer.
Abstract:
A fabric for use in safety apparel comprising yarns spun from a blend of staple fibers. At least 60 percent of the staple fibers are flame resistant fibers and up to 40 percent are non-flame resistant fibers. At least one dye type is applied to the fabric and is selected to dye both the flame resistant and non-flame resistant fibers in the blend. When dyed, the fabric meets both the American National Standards Institute standard ANSI/ISEA-107 minimum conspicuity requirements for occupational activities for high-visibility safety apparel and the American Society for Testing and Materials standard ASTM F-1506 for flame resistance.

Abstract:
A method of providing a droplet spray, includes supplying a liquid polymer formulation within which substantially inert particulate material is suspended to an outlet and subjecting liquid issuing from the outlet to an electric field that causes the liquid to break up into droplets.
Abstract:
A device and method for atomizing a liquid medium, including an electrically conductive nozzle body with an internal volume for holding the liquid medium, at least one nozzle opening as well as a high-voltage electrode arranged inside the internal volume coaxially to a longitudinal axis of the nozzle body. The high-voltage electrode is provided in the area of its greatest lateral expansion with a circumferential, sharp edge that extends at a small distance to the nozzle body in order to be able to bring about the electrostatic charging of the passing liquid medium. This construction enables the electrostatic atomization in a simple manner even for multi-hole nozzles, so that the electrostatic atomization also can be used in the field of gas turbine technology for improving the injection in the start-up and partial load range.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses an anti-electrostatic discharge spray gun apparatus and method for preventing crystallization of particles formed as a result of electrostatic discharge from forming on a spray gun nozzle and an associated pair of oppositely charged electrodes disposed on the gun. The apparatus has a housing; a nozzle attached to the housing for dispensing gas; means for dispensing a gas through the nozzle; means for electrostatically discharging a gas dispensed through the nozzle; and means for restricting the flow of a gas through the nozzle. The means for dispensing and restricting flow of a gas through the nozzle may be either a bypass piping having a flow control means or a stopper that operates to provide a constant but low volume flow of an inert gas such as nitrogen to the nozzle to prevent particle build up or crystallization from occurring.
Abstract:
A liquid emission device includes a chamber having a nozzle orifice. Separately addressable dual electrodes are positioned on opposite sides of a central electrode. The three electrodes are aligned with the nozzle orifice. A rigid electrically insulating coupler connects the two addressable electrodes. To eject a drop, an electrostatic charge is applied to the addressable electrode nearest to the nozzle orifice, which pulls that electrode away from the orifice, drawing liquid into the expanding chamber. The other addressable electrode moves in conjunction, storing potential energy in the system. Subsequently the addressable electrode nearest to the nozzle is de-energized and the other addressable electrode is energized, causing the other electrode to be pulled toward the central electrode in conjunction with the release of the stored elastic potential energy. This action pressurizes the liquid in the chamber behind the nozzle orifice, causing a drop to be ejected from the nozzle orifice.
