Abstract: A nebuliser outlet assembly comprises an inlet end and an outlet end, and a first channel (24) arranged between the inlet end and the outlet end, wherein the first channel is configured to receive a capillary. The nebuliser outlet assembly comprises a first part (40) and one or more second parts (50), wherein the one or more second parts are removably attachable to the first part. The nebuliser outlet assembly is configured such that the first channel is formed from the first part and the one or more second parts when the one or more second parts are attached to the first part. The first part comprises an open-sided channel that corresponds to the first channel for at least some of its length. The nebuliser outlet assembly is configured such that when the one or more second parts are removed from the first part, said open-sided channel is exposed.

Abstract: An electrospray apparatus and a method of operating the electrospray apparatus can include an array of emitters that can emit a fog of charged droplets, wherein the charged droplets can be produced in a carrier gas by the array of emitters and directed into a development zone of a charge image. Each emitter among the array of emitters can be implemented as a cone-shaped emitter. The array of emitters can be implemented as a cone jet electrospray micro-array that can produce a high liquid concentration of the charged droplets in the carrier gas. The charged droplets can comprise charged fountain solution droplets, and the charge image can be a fountain solution image that can be transferrable to a blanket for control and subsequent ink transfer to a receiving medium.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus related to laser ablation spectrometry systems. In one aspect, a system comprises a microscope, a laser, a continuous flow probe, and a gas confinement device. The laser is positioned to emit light through an objective lens of the microscope. The continuous flow probe is coupled to a spectrometer. An end of the continuous flow probe is positioned proximate a sample and between the sample and the objective lens. The gas confinement device defines a gas inlet, a chamber, a platform, a wall surrounding the platform, a plurality of vents, and a plurality of channels. Each of the plurality of vents is positioned to direct a gas substantially parallel to the platform, and each of the plurality of vents is defined in the wall. The plurality of channels is operable to provide fluid communication between the chamber and the plurality of vents.

Abstract: A new experimental setup for spatially resolved ambient infrared laser ablation mass spectrometry (AIRLAB-MS) that uses an infrared microscope with an infinity-corrected reflective objective and a continuous flow solvent probe coupled to a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer is described. The efficiency of material transfer from the sample to the electrospray ionization emitter was determined using glycerol/methanol droplets containing 1 mM nicotine and is ˜50%. This transfer efficiency is significantly higher than values reported for similar techniques.
