    摘要: An improved method and apparatus for applying adhesive to a backing fabric, such as for adhesively laminating a secondary fabric backing to a carpet. The adhesive is formed into a layer of predetermined thickness on the surface of a rotating casting roller, and the backing fabric is conveyed along a path adjacent to the casting roller in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the casting roller. A press blade brings sucessive portions of the backing fabric into contact with a portion of the casting roller, and the adhesive layer on the casting roller is transferred to the backing fabric at an adhesive contact point. The backing fabric is then conveyed abruptly away from the casting roller at the adhesive contact point in a substantially radial direction. This abrupt lateral disengagement of the backing fabric from the casting roller prevents the backing fabric from being dragged through the oncoming layer of adhesive on the casting roller, and further prevents the cohesive interaction between the layer of adhesive on the casting roller and the deposited layer of adhesive on the back of the backing fabric which can pull adhesive off the backing fabric back onto the casting roller or vice-verse.

    摘要: An apparatus for glueing together two different material layers, of which one is intended to form a first cover in a folder, file or the like and the other a second cover and/or a spine in the folder, file or the like, the glueing being carried out in an area where the layers overlap each other, by a glueing device included in the apparatus, said device coating one side of one layer with a glue strip along or close to one edge thereof. The apparatus also includes an aligning means (23, 25), which aligns both layers relative each other so that they overlap each other in an area which is at least as wide as the width of the glue strip, a pressing means (26, 28) pressing both layers towards each other in the area for the glue strip therebetween, and a feed means (6-10, 15-18, 29-32) for feeding the layers through the apparatus.

    摘要: Floor covering, such as carpets or other covering materials for residential and general furnishing, are fixed to a floor or other surface by means of an applied bonding layer. Embedded into the bonding layer are adhesive particles which are made chemically passive and the cohesive forces of which are greater in the thermoplastic state than their adhesive forces and which are converted, only after the carpet has been laid and adjusted in position, from their non-adhesive state into a malleable tacky phase of the layer as a result of the effect of temperature, after which a firm bond is produced in a cooling phase as a result of the lowering of this temperture. Alternatively, the bonding layer may be provided by a separate interlayer.

    摘要: An improved apparatus for producing laminated articles such as vehicle seat inserts. A continuous web of foam riser material is intermittently advanced along the apparatus by chain drag conveyor means. Fabric cover panels are longitudinally spaced on the upper surface of the web and sewn thereto at an upstream sewing machine station. The conveyor means advances the web together with the panels to a platen press station wherein a press plate moves to insert cutting and heat sealing dies into engagement with the laminated material. A laminated insert pattern is cut from both the web and overlying cover and thereafter heat sealed around its outer perimeter by bonding means sandwiched between the panel and web. A photocell sensing arrangement is adapted to normally see-through the web such that it senses the trailing edge of each advancing panel. A control circuit, on receiving a signal from the photocell, triggers counter means thereby advancing the conveyor means one panel length such that each succeeding panel has its trailing edge aligned with the die upstream border. By virtue of sensing each panel's trailing edge, the panels may be positioned on the web with variable width longitudinal spaces therebetween. It is a requirement that the spaces have a minimum dimension enabling the photocell to reset the counter means prior to the arrival of the next panel.

    摘要: A machine for depositing powder in a selected configuration, fusing the configured powder into a laminate and adhering the fused laminate to a shoe substrate. A heater raises the temperature of configured powder to fuse the powder into a laminate. A pair of radially spaced holes extend downwardly through the heater through which a fused laminate underlying the holes can be observed. Configured powder is conveyed past the heater to fuse the configured powder into a fused laminate, and a remote temperature sensor is controllably displaceable from one location to a second location so that the temperature of a fused laminate below either one of said apertures can be sensed. The temperature sensor is secured at either of the two discrete locations, and the holes can be closed by pivotally mounted caps.

    摘要: A method of producing an open, triaxial woven, acoustic face sheet useful in acoustic energy absorbing panels for aircraft engines or the like. The composite face sheet is formed from carbon fibers in an epoxy resin matrix and has about 25 to 33% open area. This face sheet has lower weight and superior and more uniform strength and stiffness than biaxial composite face sheets. The face sheet is made by first weaving carbon fiber tows at warp angles of +30.degree. and -30.degree. and a fill angle of 90.degree.. The woven sheet is impregnated with epoxy as other resins in a manner which produces no rich or starved areas and no blocked openings. The resulting prepreg material may be stored for extended periods at reduced temperatures. The prepreg material is shaped on a suitable mold surface and the resin is fully cured, preferably in a vacuum bag assembly in an autoclave. The resulting sheet has very light weight, an excellent percentage of openings and high strength and stiffness. The sheet may be incorporated in an acoustic energy absorbing structure wherein the sheet has bonded to its outer surface a smooth microporous sheet such as a stainless steel woven wire cloth.
