    摘要： Touch fastener products (10) are made by distributing a multiplicity of discrete fastening bits (14, 14a, 14b) over a support surface (12) and fixing the distributed bits (14, 14a, 14b) to the support surface (12), such as by an adhesive (32). Each bit (14, 14a, 14b) has opposite side surfaces (24, 24b, 26, 26b) forming boundaries of surfaces defining projections (16) extending in different directions from the fastening bits (14, 14a, 14b), at least one of the opposite side surfaces (24, 24b, 26, 26b) being non-planar, and each projection (16) has an overhanging head (18). As fixed, each bit (14, 14a, 14b) is oriented with at least one of its projection heads (18) raised from the support surface (12) to releasably engage fibers (30). Bits (14, 14a, 14b) are made by pelletizing shaped rails (36). Applications include securing floor coverings (150).

    摘要： A tool and method for bonding two carpet pieces by use of a vacuum which forces air to move upwardly through the carpet and to cool the hot glue adhesive. The invention goes beyond providing a uniquely strong bond by leveling the carpets on both sides of the bond seam. Thus it also has the ability to bond a thin side of carpet with a thicker side of carpet because of leveling of the carpet on both sides of the bond seam thus hiding the seam more perfectly (many times when a carpet manufacturer shears a carpet one side will be thicker than the other side). Alternately, thin carpets may be bonded without risk of having a weak bond. When several carpets are bonded together with multiple seams, the carpet may be stretched more than conventionally bonded carpets due to the great strength of bonds made in accordance with this invention. All species of the invention enjoy a substantial savings in time needed for seaming.

    摘要： A hot melt carpet seaming tape and a method of installation are effective to minimize seam peaking at carpet joints. A seaming iron used in the installation has a grooved base plate and connected liquid channels which accomplish seam welding of carpet backings at the seam. As the two carpet edges come together behind the iron, the backings are seam welded by the liquid adhesive in a butt joint, adding significant strength to the seam in the carpet. The carpet seaming tape has a narrow hot melt adhesive strip, preferably less than two inches wide. When the carpet seaming tape is used in conjunction with seam welding (seam sealing), with hot melt adhesive applied between the edges of the carpet backings, the assembled carpeting when stretched will not tend to peak significantly at the seam.

    摘要： A method of laying carpet to avoid seam peaking, the method employing an enhanced width seaming tape spanning the abutting edges of the carpet forming the seam. The tape has a hot melt adhesive on the upper surface facing the carpet backing. An enhanced width carpet seaming iron is employed to melt the adhesive and to provide a bond between the tape and the carpet backing. In an alternative embodiment, the tape is made in three segments with one of them applied spanning the seam and the other two in flanking positions along either side of the seam spanning tape. In another embodiment the seaming tape is constructed with a composite modulus of elasticity which varies across the width of the tape. The invention also includes several embodiments of the enhanced width seaming iron for application of the tape to the carpet seam.

    摘要： A baseplate for a carpet seaming iron of the kind used for making a face seam with hot melt adhesive tape has the underside of the base plate formed with a forward, flat surface and a rearward, ribbed surface. The underside also has a longitudinally extending center groove shaped to form a raised bead of molten adhesive at the outlet end of the iron for coating the side edges of the carpet backings with hot melt adhesive. The forward, flat surface provides maximum contact for heating of the hot melt adhesive; and the rearward, ribbed surface meters the molten adhesive evenly over the full width of the tape. The forward ends of the ribs are longitudinally offset so as to form a V shape which helps to funnel molten adhesive both into the channels between the ribs and into the center groove at the apex of the V as the iron is moved along the tape.

    摘要： A carpet seaming tape comprising a tape base with yarns thereon and having a layer of adhesive thereover with a plurality of spaced apart rows of adhesive formed thereon and extending longitudinally along the tape. The yarns have a heat sealant emulsion rolled onto their backs. The layer and rows of adhesive are melted upon the application of heat, and the heat sealant maintains the adhesive above the tape base so as to be available for securement to the carpet. The backs of two adjacent portions of carpet are then pressed against the tape and are bonded thereto providing a seamless appearance.
