摘要: Printing masters are produced by use of an inkjet printing system. The smallest halftone dot size which can be printed by the inkjet printing system is larger than the size of a pixel of the recording grid defined by the addressability of the printing device. The error diffusion algorithm is especially adapted to make use of the high addressability of the recording system.Using a sub-dot phase modulated error diffusion halftoning algorithm allows for the distance between the halftone dots to be modulated in much smaller increments than the size of the halftone dots themselves. Results can be further improved by dynamically influencing the threshold value in the error diffusion algorithm in accordance with previous output quantisation determinations.Variable coverage percentage of the pixels can be taken into account. The method can be extended to multilevel systems.

摘要: A method for compensating for image distortion imparted on a flexographic printing plate is disclosed. The compensation scheme reduces the distortion effect caused by stretching of the image when the printing plate is wrapped around the cylindrical drum of a printing press. The compensation scheme predicts the localized distortion on different parts of the image caused by variations in the undercut depth and density of the image features on the plate. By so doing, the scaling factor is varied in accordance with the predicted localized distortion in the different parts of the image, so as to minimize the distortion effect over the entire printing plate.

摘要: A plate material the surface of which is formed of film including as its major component a material whose surface changes from a lipophilic state to a hydrophilic state by a photocatalytic reaction and returns to a lipophilic state when subsequently subjected to a heat treatment is used for making a printing plate. The substantially entire surface of the plate material is uniformly exposed to active light and an image is written in a heat mode on the surface of the plate material, which has been exposed to the active light.

摘要: An imagewise polarizable imaging member can be used to print the same or different images with an electrically responsive marking media. The imaging member includes a matrix-addressable microelectronic layer in proximate relationship with an imagewise polarizable ferroelectric layer. Imaging is accomplished by forming an imagewise electrical pattern in the ferroelectric layer using signals from the matrix-addressable microelectronic layer, and applying the electrically responsive marking media to the electrically polarized ferroelectric layer, creating thereon an identifiable image pattern. The marking media can then be transferred to a suitable receiver material to form the desired printed image.

摘要: Lithographic printing is carried out by a novel process utilizing a zirconia ceramic as a printing plate. In this process, the surface of the zirconia ceramic printing plate is imagewise exposed to radiation which transforms it from a hydrophilic to an oleophilic state or from an oleophilic to a hydrophilic state, thereby creating a lithographic printing surface which is hydrophilic in non-image areas and is oleophilic and thus capable of accepting printing ink in image areas. The zirconia ceramic printing plate utilized in this process is capable of extremely long printing runs, is especially well adapted for direct digital laser imaging using images that are electronically captured and digitally stored, and can be reused by erasing the image from the ceramic surface by thermally-activated oxidation or laser-assisted oxidation.
