Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for production of transportation fuels from biomass. More particularly, this invention relates to a process for using solvent to remove metal impurities and high molecular weight components from biomass derived biocrude to prevent potential catalyst poisoning and catalyst bed plugging in biocrude-to-transportation fuel upgrading process.

Abstract:
A process of solubilizing organic solids that includes reacting an organic solid with an oxidant in superheated water to form a solubilized organic solute. Preferably, the organic solid is selected from the group consisting of coal, lignite, kerogen, biomass, solid organic wastes, and mixtures thereof. The oxidant preferably is molecular oxygen.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for biomass conversion in a catalytic pyrolysis reactor to convert such to liquid hydrocarbons which includes conditions which favor increased olefin production; wherein the olefins are then upgraded alone or with the produced bio-oil to fuel range hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
A process for providing fast pyrolysis or gasification of feed material, such as biomass, by mixing it with inert inorganic hot solids in a fluidized mixer/reactor and utilizing released gas from the resulting reaction to transport the mixture from the mixer/reactor.
Abstract:
A countercurrent process is disclosed for converting solid biomass material. The solid biomass material travels through a reactor system in countercurrent with hot heat carrier materials, such as particulate heat carrier material and hot gases. The solid biomass material is subjected to a first conversion at a first temperature T 1, and a second conversion at a second temperature, T 2, such that T 2>T 1. Bio-oil produced to at T 1 is not exposed to the higher temperature T 2. As a result, secondary reactions of the bio-oil components are minimized.
Abstract:
A treated oil, such as a treated heavy oil, which has a viscosity which is lower than the viscosity of the oil prior to the treatment thereof (i.e., the initial oil). The temperature at which 80 mass % of the treated oil has boiled is within 25° C. of temperature at which 80 mass % of the oil prior to the treatment thereof has boiled. Thus, the treated oil and the oil prior to the treatment thereof, have distillation curves or boiling point curves which are the same as or approximate to each other.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process of producing an aviation fuel base oil having excellent combustibility, oxidation stability and life cycle characteristics, hydrotreating in the presence of hydrogen a feedstock comprising an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon compound originating from an animal or vegetable fat (preferably an animal or vegetable fat that contains fatty acids each having 10 to 14 carbon atoms in the fatty acid carbon chain in the total amount of 60 percent by mass or more) and a sulfur-containing hydrocarbon compound. The present invention also provides a process for producing an aviation fuel base oil by blending such an aviation fuel base oil and an aviation fuel base oil produced by refining crude oil.
Abstract:
Methods for selective extraction and fractionation of algal lipids and algal products are disclosed. A method of selective removal of products from an algal biomass provides for single and multistep extraction processes which enable efficient separation of algal components. Among these components are neutral lipids synthesized by algae, which are extracted by the methods disclosed herein for the production of renewable fuels.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method and device to produce esterified, olefinated/esterified, or thermochemolytic reacted bio-oils as fuels. The olefinated/esterified product may be utilized as a biocrude for input to a refinery, either alone or in combination with petroleum crude oils. The bio-oil esterification reaction is catalyzed by addition of alcohol and acid catalyst. The olefination/esterification reaction is catalyzed by addition of resin acid or other heterogeneous catalyst to catalyze olefins added to previously etherified bio-oil; the olefins and alcohol may also be simultaneously combined and catalyzed by addition of resin acid or other heterogeneous catalyst to produce the olefinated/esterified product.
