A second estimator determines a precise estimate of the time of arrival of at least one subcarrier of the OFDM-like multitone signals by adjusting the precise time of arrival to align the slope of the subcarrier phases of the OFDM-like multitone signals in accordance with a phase (second) correlation function and consistent with the coarse estimate of the time of arrival associated with the code correlation function. A data processor estimates the location of the receiver or estimated range based on the precise estimate.

    摘要: An optimum time domain windowing scheme for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based waveforms in the sense of spectral concentration is proposed. Instead of evenly suppressing the sidelobes along the frequency, the sidelobe power is concentrated within a guard band while maximally suppressing the power for a desired frequency range. This is achieved by employing optimum finite duration pulses, prolate spheroidal wave functions (PSWF), to shape the OFDM transmit pulse. Also with per-subcarrier windowing scheme, the effect of inner subcarriers on sidelobes is diminished by utilizing the concentration bandwidth versus out-of-band power trade-off in PSWF and the multicarrier nature of the OFDM.

    摘要: Improved methods for coding an ensemble of pulse vectors utilize statistical models (i.e., probability models) for the ensemble of pulse vectors, to more efficiently code each pulse vector of the ensemble. At least one pulse parameter describing the non-zero pulses of a given pulse vector is coded using the statistical models and the number of non-zero pulse positions for the given pulse vector. In some embodiments, the number of non-zero pulse positions are coded using range coding. The total number of unit magnitude pulses may be coded using conditional (state driven) bitwise arithmetic coding. The non-zero pulse position locations may be coded using adaptive arithmetic coding. The non-zero pulse position magnitudes may be coded using probability-based combinatorial coding, and the corresponding sign information may be coded using bitwise arithmetic coding. Such methods are well suited to coding non-independent-identically-distributed signals, such as coding video information.

    摘要: Methods and systems are disclosed for frequency-domain symbol and frame synchronization for multi-carrier communication systems. Received signals are sampled and converted into frequency components associated with subcarriers within the multi-carrier communication signals. Symbol synchronization is performed in the frequency domain by performing correlation(s) between frequency components of the received signal and frequency-domain synchronization symbol(s). After symbol synchronization, frame synchronization correlation is also performed in the frequency domain between frequency components of the received signal and frequency-domain synchronization symbol(s). The disclosed embodiments are particularly useful for symbol and frame synchronization in multi-carrier received signals for power line communication (PLC) systems and/or other harsh noisy communication environments.
