Provided is a plain bearing including a backing layer, a bearing metal layer, an optional intermediate layer and an overlay. The overlay includes a plurality of sub-layers disposed one on top of the other, which sub-layers include two or more relatively soft sub-layers and one or more relatively hard sub-layer. The soft and hard sub-layers are arranged alternately with respect to one another. Each soft sub-layer includes a metal or metal alloy, and each hard sub-layer includes one or more intermetallic compound.A method of making a coated plain bearing is also provided.

There is provided a half thrust bearing having a semicircular-ring shape for a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, including a back metal layer and a bearing alloy layer having a slide surface on which thrust reliefs are formed adjacently to both circumferential end surfaces so that a wall thickness of the half thrust bearing becomes thinner from the slide surface toward the circumferential end surfaces. A thrust relief length L1 of each thrust relief extends over a circumferential angle θ1 from the circumferential end surface toward a circumferential central portion, and is constant between an inside end portion and an outside end portion in a radial direction of the half thrust bearing. A flat surface of each thrust relief includes a first region on the circumferential end surface side and a second region on the circumferential central portion side.

Each half thrust bearing includes a bearing alloy layer and a resin slide layer, or a back metal layer, a bearing alloy layer and a resin slide layer. The resin slide layer constitutes a slide surface receiving an axial force of a crankshaft. Each half thrust bearing include thrust reliefs formed adjacent to both circumferential end portions of the sliding surface so that a wall thickness is thinner toward the circumferential end surface. A thrust relief length at an inner end portion of the thrust relief positioned on a rear side of one of the half thrust bearings in a rotational direction is larger than a thrust relief length at an inner end portion of the thrust relief positioned on a front side of the other of the half thrust bearing in the rotational direction.

According to the present invention, there is provided a slide member for a shock absorber of a vehicle including a back metal, a porous sintered metal layer containing a porous sintered metal formed on the back metal and a resin with which the porous sintered metal is impregnated and covered, and a resin slide layer formed on the porous sintered metal layer and having a smooth slide surface, and the slide member is formed in a cylindrical shape so that the resin slide layer is disposed on an inner peripheral side. The resin slide layer is composed of polytetrafluoroethylene and a plurality of granular elements dispersed in the polytetrafluoroethylene, and the granular element is composed of molybdenum disulfide and molybdenum trioxide, and/or tungsten disulfide and tungsten trioxide.

The half thrust bearing includes thrust reliefs formed adjacent to both circumferential end portions of a sliding surface receiving an axial force of the crankshaft so that its wall thickness is made thinner toward the circumferential end surface, and a thrust relief length at an inner end portion of the thrust relief positioned on a rear side in the crankshaft rotational direction is formed to be larger than a thrust relief length at an inner end portion of the thrust relief positioned on a front side in the crankshaft rotational direction.

The back metal layer includes an intermediate sub-layer and a buffer sub-layer disposed on a back face of the back metal layer. The sliding layer is joined to the intermediate sub-layer. Both of the sub-layers include iron or an iron alloy, and the buffer sub-layer has a thickness of 2 to 20% relative to the thickness of the thrust bearing, and a porosity ratio of 10 to 50%.

A slide member provided with an overlay composed of a Bi-based material. A slide member includes a substrate; and an overlay including Bi or a Bi alloy provided over the substrate. A surface portion (surface-most portion) of the overlay includes an oxide layer in which a bismuth oxide, is scattered. The content of the bismuth oxide in the oxide layer represented by oxygen content is equal to or greater than 0.5% mass % and equal to or less than 8.0 mass %. The orientation intensity ratio of the main orientation plane of Bi or Bi alloy crystals in the overlay is 50% or greater. The main orientation plane of the bismuth oxide crystals in the oxide layer is the (220) plane or the (201) plane.
