Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface and a display, that includes one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface, displays a plurality of application icons, where the plurality of application icons include a respective application icon corresponding to a respective application. While a focus selector is over the respective application icon, the device detects a gesture that includes a contact on the touch-sensitive surface; and in response to detecting the gesture: when the contact had a maximum intensity during the gesture that was below a respective intensity threshold, the device displays an application window of the respective application; and when the contact reached an intensity during the gesture that was above the respective intensity threshold, the device displays a plurality of user interface objects that correspond to the respective application.

Abstract: An electronic device detects a contact associated with a focus selector that controls movement of a respective user interface object; and while continuously detecting the contact, the device detects first movement of the contact. In response to detecting the first movement of the contact, the device moves the focus selector and the respective user interface object, and determines an intensity of the contact. The device detects second movement of the contact and in response to detecting the second movement of the contact: when the contact meets respective intensity criteria, the device moves the focus selector and the user interface object; and when the contact does not meet the respective intensity criteria, the device moves the focus selector without moving the user interface object.

In some embodiments, an electronic device optionally designates a user as being present at a sound-playback device in accordance with a determination that sound-detection criteria and verification criteria have been satisfied. In some embodiments, an electronic device optionally determines whether a person is further or closer than a threshold distance from a display device, and optionally provides a first or second user interface for display on the display device in accordance with the determination. In some embodiments, an electronic device optionally modifies the playing of media content in accordance with a determination that one or more presence criteria are not satisfied.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display, a touch-sensitive surface, and sensors to detect intensity of contacts with the touch-sensitive surface displays, on the display, an affordance corresponding to respective content at a respective size and detects a gesture that includes an increase in intensity of a contact followed by a subsequent decrease in intensity of the contact. In response to the increase in intensity, the device decreases a size of the affordance below the respective size. In response to the subsequent decrease in intensity: when a maximum intensity of the contact is above a content-display intensity threshold, the device ceases to display the affordance and displays at least a portion of the respective content; and when a maximum intensity of the contact is below the content-display intensity threshold, the device increases the size of the affordance to the respective size and forgoes displaying the respective content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multitasking using touch-sensitive devices are disclosed herein. In one aspect, a method includes: playing video content in a full-screen mode on a touch-sensitive display of an electronic device. While playing the video content in the full-screen mode, the method further includes: receiving a request to display a home screen on the touch-sensitive display. In response receiving the request, the method also includes: (i) displaying the home screen; (ii) resizing the video content to fit within a reduced area of the touch-sensitive display; and (iii) displaying the resized video content overlaying the home screen.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multitasking using touch-sensitive displays are disclosed. An example method includes: displaying a first application on a touch-sensitive display (TSD) of an electronic device; detecting, via the TSD, a swipe gesture that moves over part of the first application; in response to detecting the swipe gesture, displaying an application selector with a set of affordances, and the application selector is (i) displayed in a predefined portion of the TSD and (ii) overlays at least a portion of the displayed first application; detecting an input at an affordance of the set of affordances; in response to detecting the input: (i) ceasing to display the application selector; (ii) displaying a second application corresponding to the selected affordance in the predefined portion that was previously used to display the application selector; and (iii) resizing the first application to occupy a remaining portion of the TSD adjacent to the predefined portion.

Abstract: Systems and methods for multitasking using touch-sensitive devices are disclosed herein. In one aspect, a method includes: displaying, on a touch-sensitive display (“TSD”) of a device, first and second applications such that the first and second applications occupy substantially all of the TSD and are separated at a border between the first and second applications. The method further includes: detecting a swipe gesture at the second application , the swipe gesture moving in a direction that is substantially parallel to the border. In response to detecting the swipe gesture, the method includes: determining whether the swipe gesture satisfies a threshold. Upon determining that the swipe gesture satisfies the threshold, the method includes: replacing the second application with an application selector that includes a plurality of selectable affordances corresponding to applications available on the device, the application selector being displayed in an area of the TSD previously occupied by the second application.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a user interface in a first display state. The device detects a first portion of a gesture on a touch-sensitive surface, including detecting intensity of a respective contact of the gesture. In response to detecting the first portion of the gesture, the device displays an intermediate display state between the first display state and a second display state. In response to detecting the end of the gesture: if intensity of the respective contact had reached a predefined intensity threshold prior to the end of the gesture, the device displays the second display state; otherwise, the device redisplays the first display state. After displaying an animated transition between a first display state and a second state, the device, optionally, detects an increase of the contact intensity. In response, the device displays a continuation of the animation in accordance with the increasing intensity of the respective contact.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for displaying a graphical user interface (GUI) for an electronic device. The method receives input to display files recently opened on the electronic device. In response to the input, the method displays a chronologically-arranged graphical representation of files recently opened on the electronic device from two or more applications that operate on the electronic device. The files are arranged in several groups based on when the files were open on the electronic device.
