Cleanable filters and methods of cleaning filters are described in the present application. The cleanable air filter includes a housing and a filter element installed in the housing. The filter element is configured to filter an operating fluid in a given application. The filter element is cleanable in-situ in the installed condition in the housing. The cleanable air filter further includes a cleaning fluid applicator configured to apply a cleaning fluid to the filter element while the filter element is in the installed condition in the housing such that the filter element is cleanable without being removed from the filter housing.

Described herein is a continuous process fear modifying the properties of polyester and polyester based fibers, such as a poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) fiber, comprising subjecting the PBT fiber to alkaline hydrolysis, and optionally further comprising functionalizing the PBT fiber by solution grafting such as fluorination. The alkaline hydrolysis and optionally subsequent functionalization such as fluorination process can be continuous, following the melt blowing/spinning or spun-bonding process. Also described is a nonwoven PBT fiber mat obtained by the surface modification process. Further described is a filtration device comprising the nonwoven PBT fiber mat.

An attachment and retaining mechanism is described for removably attaching a rotating filter element to a rotating shaft. The rotating filter element includes a filter media that is driven by a drive mechanism that rotates the rotating shaft. The filter element is removably attached to the rotating shaft such that the filter element and filtration system can be periodically replaced and/or serviced. In some arrangements, the drive shaft includes a D-shaped section that interacts with a mating section of the filter element sleeve of the rotating filter element. In other arrangements, the drive shaft includes at least one flat drive surface.
Abstract:
Rotating coalescer crankcase ventilation (CV) systems are described. The described CV systems utilize a pumping pressure created by the porous media of the rotating coalescer to maintain positive recirculation of filtered blowby gases through a potential leak gap between a static housing inlet and a spinning component of the rotating coalescer. In some arrangements, the porous media is fibrous media. The filter media may be pleated or non-pleated. The positive recirculation caused by the pressure balance prevents unfiltered blowby gases from bypassing the media of the rotating coalescer from the upstream side to the downstream side of the filter media through the gap. During operation, the pressure balance between the upstream side and downstream side of the filter media maintains the positive recirculation, which in turn maintains a high filtration efficiency.

Disclosed are modular filter-in-filter elements, namely an outer filter element and an inner filter element which may be assembled to form a filter cartridge for use in separation methods and systems. The outer filter element typically functions as a coalescing element and the inner element typically functions as a particulate filter element. The disclosed filter cartridges may be structured for separating water from a hydrocarbon-based liquid fuel as the fuel moves through the cartridge from outside to inside.
