摘要: A surgical cutting instrument for cutting tissue includes a flexible outer tubular assembly or cannula sized for percutaneous insertion into an anatomical space, such as a joint space in the spine. The outer tubular assembly has a cutting opening at its angle-tipped distal end, and the proximal end is supported by a handpiece. A cutting member is slidablv disposed within the outer tubular assembly and includes a tubular cutting head portion defining an end opening and a cutting edge at the end opening. In one specific embodiment, the outer tubular assembly includes a flexible segment connected between two more rigid segments by means of locking grooves. The cutting member includes a flexible drive portion attached to the cutting head portion in order to permit the cutting head portion to flex relative to the remainder of the cutting member and relative to the outer tubular assembly. The flexible segment and drive portion allow the cutting instrument to be pre-configured to navigate through tissue to the cutting site.

摘要: An automatic package wrapping machine wraps a box of arbitrary size. The box is placed in the machine following which all operations are automatic. As the box is automatically advanced to a ready-to-wrap position, its length, width and height are automatically measured. Paper is withdrawn from a roll supply and automatically cut to a size calculated to wrap the box. The paper is automatically applied to wrap four sides of the box without causing the box to tilt or tumble. The ends are then automatically processed by folding and sealing of flaps, whereupon a neatly wrapped box is ejected from the machine.

摘要: A rotary surgical cutting instrument for use in cutting tissue within an anatomical space includes an outer cannula sized for percutaneous insertion into the anatomical space. The outer cannula defines a central bore along the length of the outer cannula and a cutting opening adjacent the distal end sized to receive tissue therethrough. A rotatably driven tubular cutting member is disposed within the central bore of the outer cannula, with a cutting edge rotating beneath the cutting opening of the cannula. The cutting edge extends at least substantially completely circumferentially around the tubular cutting head and circumscribes an angle relative to longitudinal and radial planes defined by the outer cannula. The cutting member can include a tubular cutting head and body portion that are connected by a hinge to permit pivoting of the cutting head relative to the body. The cutting member is formed from a flat sheet that is wound into a tubular shape within the outer cannula with opposite first and second edges adjacent each other. The cutting edge extends at an oblique angle between the first and second edges. The cutting edge is defined in the sheet at an oblique angle extending between the first and second edges. In one embodiment, the cutting head and body are formed by separate sheet portions attached by the hinge, the cutting head being formed from a trapezoidal sheet. In another embodiment, the cutting head and body are formed from one sheet.

摘要: A filter is provided for removing particles entrained in a liquid, this filter comprising an endless fine mesh filter belt which is relatively short and which moves slowly over a supporting plurality of generally cylindrical rolls. This belt is a single layer of generally delicate woven metallic mesh and is provided with special means for moving and tracking the belt. This moving and tracking structure includes a link belt endless chain outside of each longitudinal side edge of the belt, these chains being rigidly attached over the adjacent edge of the belt. The belt can be held to its desired path around all of the supporting rolls and, preferably, over a suction box and past a cleaning point and returning to a starting point with no sensing devices, no special tracking rolls or tenter rolls, without powered devices, and with a minimum of close tolerance machining.

摘要: An auger-type poultry chiller having an auger with multiple long-pitch auger blades. The blades of the auger create pockets that spiral around the auger shaft and extend the length of the auger. While the product in the chiller is locked into a certain pocket, it is not locked into a certain spot lengthwise in the chiller. The product, therefore, is able to distribute evenly along the length of the chiller within its pocket even if there are gaps in loading time or if unloading stops momentarily.

摘要: An area illumination inorganic electro-luminescent device including a substrate; and an array of one or more commonly addressed, light-emitting elements. Each commonly-addressed, light-emitting element includes a first electrode layer formed over the substrate, one or more light-emitting layers formed over the first electrode layer and a second electrode layer formed over the light-emitting layer. The light-emitting layers include multiple core/shell quantum dot emitters formed in a common polycrystalline semiconductor matrix, and a number of different core/shell quantum dot emitters emit light with a spectral power distribution having a peak and a FWHM bandwidth, such that the peak wavelengths differ by an amount less than or equal to the average FWHM bandwidth of the different core/shell quantum dot emitters within the range of 460 to 670 nm.

摘要: A method and system for non-vascular sensor implantation. An implant unit is implanted in an area of a body and a foreign body capsule is allowed to form around the area of the implant unit. The sensor may be directed into a body cavity such as, for example, the peritoneal space, subcutaneous tissues, the foreign body capsule, or other area of the body. A subcutaneous area of the body may be tunneled to place the sensor. The system may include an implant unit such as, for example, for delivering drug to a human body and a sensor for detecting a physiological parameter. The sensor may be separate from and connectable to the implant unit and may be placed in a non-vascular area of the human body.

摘要: Display devices and methods for operating the same are provided. In one embodiment, the display device has an electronic display having an active area for presenting visual content; a housing holding the electronic display and having an opening allowing a person to view a first portion of the active area; and a bezel about the opening, the bezel covering a second portion of the active area and providing a window through which at least a part of the second portion can be viewed. A sensor system senses when a person is close to touching the bezel or when a person is in touch with the bezel and generates a sensor signal; and a controller is operable to adjust the appearance of the active area in the part of the second portion when the controller determines that a person has touched the bezel or is close to touching the bezel.
