Disclosed is a method for controlling uplink transmission power in a handover region by a UE in communication with a Node B using an FCS scheme. The UE stores TPC commands received for a specific duration from a plurality of cells in an active set, if the UE enters in the handover region during communication with a current best cell. If a next best cell is selected from the plurality of the cells, the UE determines a transmission power offset by comparing TPC commands from the current best cell with TPC commands from the next best cell for the specific duration at a time point where the best cell is changed from the current best cell to the next best cell. The UE transmits initial transmission power for the next best cell at a transmission power level determined considering the transmission power offset.

In the mobile communication system, to page a UE for a first service through a primary carrier during a second service in progress through a secondary carrier, a PICH (Paging Indication Channel) transmitter in a Node B transmits paging indication information to the UE through the primary carrier by oscillating the primary carrier as a transmission frequency. A PCH (Paging Channel) transmitter transmits paging information to the UE through the primary carrier or the secondary carrier by oscillating the primary carrier or the secondary carrier as the transmission frequency under a predetermined control. A PBMSCH (Physical Broadcast Multicast Shared Channel) transmitter transmits data of the second service through the secondary carrier by oscillating the secondary carrier as the transmission frequency. A controller controls the primary carrier or the secondary carrier to be oscillated as the transmission frequency of the PCH transmitter if the paging indication information indicates paging.

Provided is a method and apparatus for transmitting a synchronization signal for cell search in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communications system. The method includes acquiring Primary Synchronization CHannel (P-SCH) sequence and Secondary Synchronization CHannel (S-SCH) sequence; mapping the P-SCH sequence and the S-SCH sequence onto subcarriers; generating OFDM symbols including the P-SCH sequence and the S-SCH sequence mapped onto subcarriers; and transmitting the OFDM symbols, wherein a frame comprising a plurality of OFDM symbols, a part of the plurality of OFDM symbols in the frame is used for transmitting Synchronization CHannel (SCH) comprising P-SCH and S-SCH, and wherein the P-SCH and the S-SCH are mapped to adjacent OFDM symbols and the S-SCH is mapped to subcarriers with a predetermined interval in a frequency domain within an OFDM symbol.
