摘要: A dispenser for rolled absorbent web material is disclosed. A carriage is rotatable between at least two orientations. The carriage includes a first roll holder, which holds a first roll of absorbent web material in a primary position when the carriage is in a first orientation and in a secondary position when the carriage is in a second orientation, and a second roll holder, which holds a second roll of absorbent web material in the secondary position when the carriage is in the first orientation and in the primary position when the carriage is in the second orientation. A roll sensor senses the amount of absorbent web material remaining on the roll in the primary position. A feed mechanism dispenses absorbent web material from at least one of the rolls. A transfer mechanism feeds absorbent web material from the roll in the secondary position into the feed mechanism when the absorbent web material on the roll in the primary position is nearly depleted.

摘要: A universal access port includes a specific size opening that is formed through a wall of a conditioning enclosure and located at a specific distance from a floor or mounting surface. The opening is preferably rectangular in shape, but other shapes may also be used. When not in use, the universal access port is covered with a sealing panel. Insertable devices may be efficiently inserted and removed from the universal access port. A perimeter of the insertable device is sized to be sealable inserted into the universal access port. Each insertable device preferably seals with an exterior and interior wall of the conditioning enclosure. Some insertable devices include fixturing devices, windows, manual manipulation devices, junction devices, hinged access doors, wire access devices, temperature modifying devices or air circulation devices.

摘要: A switchable optical element is described, along with a method of manufacturing such an element. The switchable optical element (1) comprises a fluid chamber (2) including immiscible first and second bodies of fluid (20, 22) disposed relative to one another along an optical axis (A) of the element (1). The second body of fluid (22) is movable in a direction away from the optical axis (A) by electro-wetting action, giving the switchable optical element (1) a changeable transmissivity along the optical axis (A). The switchable optical element (1) is suitable for use as an optical attenuator, e.g. a shutter, filter or diaphragm, and can be conveniently used in place of mechanical alternatives in applications such as cameras, laser resonant cavities, projectors and devices for scanning optical record carriers.

摘要: Display device based on layer break up or layer displacement having at least two different states, in which one of the fluids (5) e.g oil in a first state adjoins at least a first support plate (3) and in the second state the other fluid (6) at least partly adjoins the first support plate. In one embodiment a picture element corresponds to a substantially closed space and in the first state the other fluid layer substantially completely adjoins both support plates and is divided in two sub-layers. This makes it possible on the one hand to use lower voltages to make displacement occur. On the other hand this opens the opportunity to color displays.

摘要: An architecture that enables one to realize a FIR transversal filter with apodized, interlaced bipolar tap coefficients (an). The tap coefficients, an, are varied via the control of the optical powers emitted by an array of WDM laser sources. Also, a filter architecture where tap coefficients can be agilely reconfigured in both polarity and magnitude. One chirped fiber-grating may be used to implement a series of wavelength-dependent tap-weights. The filter designs can be utilized to eliminate the low-pass response centered at DC, allowing one to place the center frequency (fc)1 of the first passband at a targeted intermediate frequency (IF).

摘要: A subdividing structure is fitted and secured within and disposed at the bottom of a carton, box, package of similar container structure to receive and position within the container road flares for transportation storage and use. The subdividing structure is constructed either from interfitting members which together form an "egg crate" like set of compartments, one for each flare or from high density foam formed with a plurality of spaced compartments. The subdividing structure compartments are each of a size and configuration to hold a single flare and of a height such that the ends of the wire support for the respective flares are disposed above the top of the subdividing structure so that the wire ends do not trap the flares in their respective compartments or otherwise hinder removal of the flares from their respective compartments. The container is formed in box-like configuration from cardboard, box-board, plastic or the like and of a size and configuration to receive the subdividing structure and road flares when disposed therewithin. The upper lip of the container is at a height so that when the container is open the tops of the road flares are readily accessible.

摘要: An automatic chimney fire extinguisher and method includes a housing for insertion in a chimney at the outlet thereof and a flare in the housing connected thereto by a cord to suspend the flare below the housing at a predetermined distance. The flare is releasably retained in the housing and the extinguisher is responsive to a preselected temperature level in the chimney for releasing the flare to permit same to drop below the housing and to be suspended by the cord. The flare is ignited in response to the release thereof.
