摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member and a contact-charging member which contacts a surface of the image bearing member. The contact-charging member can charge the image bearing member by applying a predetermined voltage to the contact-charging member so that a potential of the contact-charging member is changed to a required potential for transferring a residual toner that is stuck on a surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member onto the image bearing member while the image bearing member stops rotating. A method for removing residual toner sticking onto a contact-charging member that contacts a surface of the image bearing member changes a potential of the contact charging member to a required cleaning potential for transferring the residual toner sticking to a surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member onto the contact-charging member while the image bearing member stops rotating. The residual toner is then transferred from the surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member onto the image bearing member, and the residual toner sticking to the surface of the contact-charging member facing the image bearing member is then removed.

摘要: A charging-and-discharging device in an electronic apparatus includes a rechargeable battery and a charging device for charging the battery. The charging-and-discharging device includes a switching circuit electrically isolating one terminal side of the battery from a ground side of the electronic apparatus. The charging-and-discharging device further includes a charge control section controlling the isolating of the one terminal side of the battery from the ground side of the electronic apparatus by turning off the switching circuit during charging of the battery. In the charging-and-discharging device, the one terminal side of the battery is isolated from the ground side of the electronic apparatus by the switching circuit during charging of the battery and a closed loop including the charging device and the battery is established to charge the battery.

摘要: A device for developing an electrostatic latent image includes a developing sleeve and a sponge roller which is in scrubbing contact with the sleeve. Thus, even if non-magnetic, single component toner is used, it is electrically charged due to the scrubbing action and thus electrically attracted to the developing sleeve. A doctor blade is pressed against the developing sleeve and thus the toner is formed into a thin film having sufficient charge and a predetermined thickness. As the developing sleeve further rotates, thus formed thin film is brought to a developing region where the latent image is developed by the thin film of toner. Preferably, the blade is arranged in a particular orientation with respect to the sleeve. The blade may be movably provided so as to be pressed against the sleeve by an appropriate biasing element. The sleeve and the sponge roller may be driven to rotate same or opposite in direction, as desired. The sleeve may be formed to be elastically deformable. The sleeve may be set in oscillation. The blade is preferably comprised of a copolymer of ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene.

摘要: A planar discharge vessel is composed of a front board 1 made of translucent glass plate and a rear board 2 made of translucent glass plate facing to the front board 1 with a certain distance, a side wall 3 and frit glass 4, which joins a periphery of the front board 1 and the rear board 2 via a side wall 3 to form a planar discharge vessel. Phosphor layers 5a, 5b are formed on an inner surface of the front board 1 and rear board 2 and convert an ultraviolet ray radiated from the discharge medium through discharge into visible light. The external electrode 6, to which a high voltage is applied and the external electrode 7, to which a low voltage is applied are arranged alternately on the outer surface of the rear board 2. A plurality of elongated spacers 8 are arranged at an equal pitch between the front board 1 and the rear board 2 keeping a distance between the front board 1 and the rear board 2 substantially constant and thereby preventing the lamp vessel from breaking due to a pressure difference between inside and outside of the discharge vessel. The linear spacer 8 is located within the maximum width of the external electrode 6, with which each electrode 6 is divided into two in the appearance. Each discharge space is lighted stably by the electrode 6, which is partly exposed to each of the discharge spaces divided by the linear spacer 8 and which is operated as the electrode 10 of each discharge space.
