摘要: An apparatus for providing active clearance control between blade tips and seals in a turbomachine comprising: a first stator carrier segment, with stator seals centripetally disposed on it; a second stator carrier segment located along a same circumference as the first stator carrier segment, also with stator seals centripetally disposed on it; a shell that adjustably houses the first stator carrier segment and the second carrier segment; at least one displacement apparatus in operable communication with at least one stator carrier segment and configured to position the at least one stator carrier segment to provide active clearance control to the stator seals disposed on the at least one stator carrier segment.

摘要: A vibration control system for a rotary machine having a rotor, includes a sensor disposed within the rotary machine for sensing vibration of the rotor, a vibration damping device disposed within the rotary machine for imparting a reaction force to the rotor, and a controller arranged in operable communication with the sensor and the vibration damping device. The controller is adapted to receive a sensor signal from the sensor and to send a control signal to the vibration damping device for damping the vibration of the rotor.

摘要: An electric machine is presented. The electric machine includes a hollow rotor; and a stator disposed within the hollow rotor, the stator defining a flow channel. The hollow rotor includes a first end portion defining a fluid inlet, a second end portion defining a fluid outlet; the fluid inlet, the fluid outlet, and the flow channel of the stator being configured to allow passage of a fluid from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet via the flow channel; and wherein the hollow rotor is characterized by a largest cross-sectional area of hollow rotor, and wherein the flow channel is characterized by a smallest cross-sectional area of the flow channel, wherein the smallest cross-sectional area of the flow channel is at least about 25% of the largest cross-sectional area of the hollow rotor. An electric fluid pump and a power generation system are also presented.

The labyrinth seal design including a plurality of features configured to open and close radial clearances in response to relative axial movement between a stationary component and a rotating component. The actuation control clearance strategy and method of operating a turbomachine effective to achieve relative motion between a rotating component and a stationary component of the turbomachine using active elements. Axial displacement of the rotating component relative to the stationary component provides an adjustment in a radial clearance at one or more sealing locations between the rotating component and the stationary component to suit a given operating condition of the turbomachine.

摘要: A pressure balance seal includes a sealing surface facing an inward radial direction, and a stator interface comprising at least one surface interfacing with a stator. The pressure balance seal further includes a friction reducing feature. The friction reducing feature includes a cavity on the sealing surface. The cavity is configured to receive a fluid such that a normal force acting on the pressure balance seal is counterbalanced by a force generated by a pressure of the fluid.

摘要: An aspirating face seal includes a primary seal, a secondary seal, and a biasing device. The primary seal includes a first seal component and a second seal component. The first seal component is configured to be coupled to a rotor and rotatable with the rotor. The secondary seal includes a plurality of flexible elements and configured to be disposed between the second seal component and a stator housing. A biasing device is coupled to the second seal component such that the second seal component is biased along an axial direction away from the first seal component during a non-operating condition.

A compliant plate seal manufacturing method includes assembling a plurality of t-shims and a plurality of spacer shims into a straight weld fixture, thereby forming a shim pack having a front and rear end and sides, welding the sides of the shim pack to a top plate, removing a portion of the weld fixture, removing the plurality of spacer shims, shaping the shim pack into a target diameter, and applying a radial flow plate to the leaf pack.

The system comprises an optical fiber probe comprising a plurality of optical fibers, at least one of the optical fibers comprising a transmission fiber and at least one of the optical fibers comprising a signal fiber; a light source for providing light through the transmission fiber towards a target; filters for receiving light from the signal fibers, at least two of the filters for filtering different wavelengths; and at least one photodetector for receiving filtered light from the filters.

摘要: An active retractable seal assembly is configured for use between a rotating component and a stationary component of turbo machinery is disclosed. The seal assembly includes a seal mounted to the stationary component. The seal is movable towards and away from the rotating component between a respective closed position and an open position as a function of pressure drop across the seal. The seal includes an active seal segment, a non-active seal segment, and a fluid by-pass circuit. The fluid by-pass circuit is configured for directing fluid around the active seal segment to reduce pressure drop across the active seal segment thereby resulting in the active seal segment moving towards an open position under the action of one or more biasing devices while maintaining the non-active seal segment in a closed position.
