Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method includes determining that a cell operates in a shared access radio frequency spectrum, and transmitting signaling information to a mobile device indicating that the cell is prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell based at least in part on the determination that the cell operates in the shared access radio frequency spectrum. Another method includes receiving signaling information at a mobile device from a base station indicating that a cell operating in a shared access radio frequency spectrum is prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell, and identifying the cell as prohibited from serving as a primary serving cell based at least in part on the received signaling information. Another method includes identifying, by a mobile device, a cell operating in a shared access radio frequency spectrum as a secondary serving cell based at least in part on information stored on the mobile device.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to enhance the efficiency of available bandwidth between UEs and base stations. A UE transmits a sounding reference signal to the base station, which characterizes the uplink channel based on the SRS received and, using reciprocity, applies the channel characterization for the downlink channel. The base station may form the beam to the UE based on the uplink channel information obtained from the SRS. As the downlink channel changes the base station needs updated information to maintain its beamforming, meaning it needs a new SRS. Transmission of the SRS takes resources; to minimize this, the UE or the base station can determine a period during which the downlink channel will predictably remain coherent and set up a schedule for sending SRS. Alternatively, the UE or the base station can determine on demand that the channel is losing coherence and initiate an on demand SRS.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for wireless communication are provided. A method for wireless communication using a single radio air interface includes configuring a radio air interface of a first device to operate in accordance with a first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, communicating wirelessly from a first device to a base station of a wide area network using the first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, reconfiguring the radio air interface to operate in accordance with a second variant of resource-spread code division multiple access technology, and communicating wirelessly with a second device in a mesh network subsequent to reconfiguring the radio. The first device and the second device communicate wirelessly at power levels below a power level threshold selected to cause the base station to ignore transmissions between the first device and the second device.

Abstract: Techniques for supporting communication in an asynchronous TDD wireless network are described. In an aspect, downlink transmissions and uplink transmissions may be sent on different carriers in an asynchronous TDD wireless network to mitigate interference. In one design, a station (e.g., a base station or a UE) may send a first transmission on a first carrier in a first time period and may receive a second transmission on a second carrier in a second time period. The station may only transmit, or only receive, or neither in each time period. In one design, allocation of carriers for the downlink and uplink may be performed when strong interference is detected, e.g., by a base station or a UE. When strong interference is not detected, the first and second carriers may each be used for both the downlink and uplink.

Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure provides methods and techniques for flexible positioning of a uplink short burst in NR communications. In one example, the uplink short burst may have a slot position that at any position of the uplink centric slot. For instance, a downlink centric slot may contain control signals from a base station, such as a grant, that indicate the slot position of the uplink short burst. The grant may indicate, explicitly or implicitly, the position within an uplink centric slot that should be assigned to an uplink short burst. The UE may then transmit a response including an uplink short burst within the indicated slot position of an uplink centric slot. The various aspects may thus enable the dynamic assignment of uplink short bursts within uplink centric slots.

Abstract: Techniques for performing peer discovery to enable peer-to-peer (P2P) communication are disclosed. In an aspect, a proximity detection signal used for peer discovery may be generated based on one or more physical channels and/or signals used in a wireless network. In one design, a user equipment (UE) may generate a proximity detection signal occupying at least one resource block based on a SC-FDMA modulation technique. In another design, the UE may generate a proximity detection signal occupying at least one resource block based on an OFDMA modulation technique. The UE may generate SC-FDMA symbols or OFDMA symbols in different manners for different physical channels. In yet another design, the UE may generate a proximity detection signal including a primary synchronization signal and a secondary synchronization signal. For all designs, the UE may transmit the proximity detection signal to indicate its presence and to enable other UEs to detect the UE.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may be categorized into one or more capability categories based on its ability to generate hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) responses within a predetermined delay or slot. HARQ timing management may consider a UE capability category that is UE dependent. The UE may provide a HARQ response different (i.e., advancing or delaying HARQ timing) than the specified or default HARQ response timing of the UE's category with some limitations and constraints. A constraint is a condition in which one or more operation parameters of the UE do not satisfy or meet a predetermined level or setting.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide a self-contained subframe structure for time division duplex (TDD) carriers. Information transmitted on a TDD carrier may be grouped into subframes, and each subframe can provide communications in both directions (e.g., uplink and downlink) to enable such communications without needing further information in another subframe. In one aspect of the disclosure, a single subframe may include scheduling information, data transmission corresponding to the scheduling information, and acknowledgment packets corresponding to the data transmission. Furthermore, the subframe may additionally include a header and/or a trailer to provide certain bi-directional communications functions.
