Apparatus and methods for injecting biological agents into tissue. Devices are provided having elongate shafts and distal injection heads for driving needles into tissue and injecting medical agents into the tissue through the needles. A longitudinal force directed along the shaft can be translated to a needle driving force. Some devices provide controllably variable needle penetration depth. Devices include mechanical needle drivers utilizing four link pantographs, rack and pinions, and drive yokes for driving a first needle bearing body toward a second tissue contacting body. Other devices include inflatable members for driving and retracting needles. Still other devices include magnets for biasing the needles in extended and/or retracted positions. The invention includes minimally invasive methods for epicardially injecting cardiocyte precursor cells into infarct myocardial tissue.

A movable element of the medical device is guided, e.g., self-guided, based on the image data. For example, the image data may be analyzed to detect a target area within the view region, e.g., the target area having at least one characteristic that is different from other portions within the view region. The movable element may then be guided based on the detected target area.

A wound dressing for use with exuding wounds includes (a) an outer vapor permeable layer permitting transpiration of fluid from the dressing; (b) an intermediate layer of hydrogel adapted for absorbing wound exudate; (c) a wound-contacting layer for separating the intermediate hydrogel layer from the wound; (d) wicking means associated with the wound-contacting layer for conducting exudate from the wound to the hydrogel; and (e) a therapeutic agent retained in the dressing by the wound-contacting layer.

The present invention provides resistance to degradation from environmental stress cracking (ESC) and metal ion induced oxidation (MIO) for implantable, flexible pacing lead insulators having a body of polyether polyurethane elastomer material. A thin layer of a second polyurethane elastomer is applied as an overcoat to the lead insulator body. The second polyurethane is more resistant to ESC and MIO than the elastomer comprising the body of the insulator. Because ESC and MIO are surface phenomina, only a thin layer of the second material is required and the mechanical properties of the base material will determine the overall mechanical properties of the lead insulator.

The apparatus consists of a stepper-motor driven circular disc(s), upon which a test vehicle, containing either the test materials, coating or device, is mounted. The test vehicle itself consists of a circular, closed-loop of polymer tubing containing a check valve.
