摘要: A solar-based power generation system may include an array of components responsive to solar radiance. The components may be disposed over respective locations on a field. The system may further include a plurality of optical fibers having respective first ends coupled to the array of components and arranged to receive solar radiance. The plurality of optical fibers may have respective second ends arranged to output respective optical signals indicative of respective levels of solar radiance over the respective locations of the field. Opto-electrical circuitry may be coupled to receive the respective optical signals from the plurality of optical fibers and generate a respective signal indicative of a shadow condition present over at least one or more of the respective locations of the field.

摘要: A method of monitoring a container that holds goods, in which one or more surfaces of the container have an electrically conductive material that acts as a sensor to detect state changes in physical properties of the container, comprises obtaining state information from the electrically conductive material and determining a position of the container. The method further comprises associating the state information with the position of the container, detecting data about the goods from an RFID tag located on the goods via an antenna that is installed around the opening edge of the container when the goods are loaded into the container and passed by the antenna, and transmitting at least one of the state information, the position of the container or the data about the goods to a data processing unit.

摘要: A coating is applied to a work piece in a charged particle beam system without directing the beam to work piece. The coating is applied by sputtering, either within the charged particle beam vacuum chamber or outside the charged particle beam vacuum chamber. In one embodiment, the sputtering is performed by directing the charged particle beam to a sputter material source, such as a needle from a gas injection system. Material is sputtered from the sputter material source onto the work piece to form, for example, a protective or conductive coating, without requiring the beam to be directed to the work piece, thereby reducing or eliminating damage to the work piece.

The method comprises: (a) providing a structure having a surface; (b) positioning the structure in a flux of at least one radionuclide so as to collect atoms of the at least one radionuclide on or beneath the surface; and (c) treating the surface such that the atoms are intercalated into the surface but allowed to recoil out of the surface upon radioactive decay. In various exemplary embodiments of the invention the method further comprises coating the surface by at least one layer of polymeric material, such that the atoms are collected into the polymeric material.

摘要: A receiver for an OTDM/PDM pulse train (10) in which the pulses (12) have alternating polarizations (P1, P2) has a polarization insensitive optical switch (16; 161, 162, 163, 164) for isolating optical pulses (10′) within the pulse train (10), and a polarization selective element (17) for separating from the isolated pulses (10′) at least one component that has a single polarization. This allows to considerable relax the constraints posed on the switch since components in the isolated pulses that result from interchannel interference can, at least to a large extent, be eliminated by the subsequent polarization selective element (17).
