    摘要: A radio communication system has improved power control of transmissions between a first station and a second station. The second station adjusts the power of its transmissions to the first station in response to power control commands received from the first station. The first station determines when it has synchronised to transmissions from the second station and informs the second station of synchronisation. After synchronisation has been signalled, the rate of adjustment of transmission power by the second station is increased (508). The changed rate of power control can be achieved by adjustments to the power control step size, or by other modifications to the response of the second station to received power control commands or to its rate of reception of power control commands.These techniques overcome the problem that, because synchronisation can take a significant time to be established, there is a danger that transmission power may be increased too much and cause unacceptable interference.

In such a system the communication channel comprises a plurality of paths (112) having a range of characteristics. Depending on the assigned categories and the characteristics of the paths (112), the data is mapped to one or more of the transmitter's antennas (110) to select a suitable transmission path (112).

The first network node is operable to receive signals from the second network node on two or more reception carriers and transmit data to the second network node on one or more transmission carriers. The method comprises the steps of: (i) monitoring for a signal on at least two of the reception carriers; (ii) generating feedback information for at least two of the reception carriers based upon received signals; (iii) grouping the feedback information for reception carriers being transmitted within the same radio band; and encoding said grouped feedback information for two or more reception carriers being transmitted within the same radio band; and iv) transmitting the encoded feedback information to the second network node on one or more transmission carriers.

    摘要: A communication system comprises a downlink indicator channel (DL1) for the transmission of a indicator signal (302) indicating that a data packet (202) is scheduled to be transmitted on a downlink data channel (DLz) from a primary station to a secondary station. In operation, on detection of the indicator signal, the secondary station transmits a status signal, for example a negative acknowledgement signal (204), on an uplink channel (UL) to the primary station immediately before transmission of a positive (206) or negative acknowledgement signal to indicate the status of the received data packet. By providing the primary station with two chances to detect the case where the secondary station fails to detect the indicator signal, peak power requirements of the uplink channel can be reduced, thereby reducing system interference levels.

Embodiments of the method may include applying, at a transmitter, a transform matrix and a pre-coding matrix to a signal prior to transmitting the signal using a plurality of antennas deployed in a first antenna configuration. The pre-coding matrix is selected from a codebook defined for a second antenna configuration deployed in a non-scattering environment. The transform matrix is defined based on the first antenna configuration and a scattering environment associated with the transmitter.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for feeding back channel state information are disclosed. The method of providing channel state information for a wireless communications channel provided between a first network node having at least one transmission antenna and a second network node having at least one reception antenna comprises the steps of: estimating a current value of at least a first type of channel state information for at least one sub-channel within the channel from signals received by the at least one reception antenna over the channel from the at least one transmission antenna; determining whether the current value of the first type of channel state information varies from previously-transmitted value for the first type of channel state information by at least a predetermined amount; and if so, transmitting an indicator indicative of the current value for the first type of channel state information to the first network node.
