Abstract:
An adhesive composite is provided which consists of a conformable backing, a pressure-sensitive adhesive which is coated on at least a portion of the bottom surface of the backing, a permanent adhesive reinforcement which acts as reinforcing means for the backing, coated on the bottom surface of the film and a liner which is releasably applied to the adhesive coated surface of the backing. A delivery means may also be provided to allow delivery of the system without touching the adhesive. The permanent adhesive reinforcement is applied to the backing in an amount which is sufficient to provide some reinforcement to the thin film backing so that the composite wall not tend to fold back on itself or wrinkle under ordinary use. Preferably this permanent adhesive reinforcement is applied to the periphery of the backing.
Abstract:
A method of improving epoxy resin compositions to provide a cured resin having improved glass transition temperature and toughness characteristics is provided. The method includes providing in an epoxy resin composition an effective amount of a substituted fluorene unit in the composition. The fluorene component acts as a chain extension agent and provides for increased glass transition temperature and less cross-link density. As a result, improved toughness occurs. In preferred applications a toughening agent is provided in the resin composition, to further enhance toughness. Preferred resin compositions, cured resins and methods of providing improved cured resins are also provided.
Abstract:
System for storing and transferring liquid comprising a container for storing liquids, a delivery tube assembly for drawing liquids from said container and transferring said liquids to a second vessel, and, disposed at one end of the delivery tube assembly, a shut-off valve that comprises a casing having a first opening at one end thereof for allowing liquid to enter said casing, a valve head which is normally covering said opening, and a device for biasing said valve head toward said first opening in order to cover same. The container has an actuating device, e.g. a projection, formed on or near the bottom portion thereof, which device actuates the valve head to allow the shut-off valve to open, thereby allowing liquid to be drawn into the first opening in the casing, pass through the casing, and then pass through a second opening in the casing to enter the delivery tube assembly. When the delivery tube assembly and shut-off valve are removed from the container, the valve head closes over said first opening, thereby preventing residual liquid present in the delivery tube assembly from leaking from the tube.
Abstract:
An image deletion fluid for printing plates which use a silver image as an ink-receptive area. The deletion fluid comprises iodine and an effective excess of iodide ion, which form a triiodide complex, and a hydrophilic-matrix-forming agent. In a preferred embodiment, the deletion fluid further comprises an organic, preferably polar, solvent. The deletion fluid is applied to the surface of the plate, rubbed briefly and allowed to dry there, with no removal or rinsing away of the deletion fluid or by-products required.
Abstract:
A cooking oil filtering apparatus has a frame and a filter supported therein. The filter is an assembly of juxtaposed layers including a filter layer formed of a uniformly porous web comprising randomly distributed, randomly interentangled, synthetic polymeric blown microfibers that are less than 10 microns in diameter and a support layer of highly porous, relatively stiff, light weight sheet material, more porous than the filter layer.
Abstract:
A normally-open pressure actuatable switchmat comprising first and second electrically conductive members separated by non-conductive material having a failsafe safety switch is provided. When the switchmat is subjected to an actuation load, there is relative movement between the first and second electrically conductive members to complete an electrically conductive path therebetween. The safety switch comprises a bridging member which includes an electrically conductive spring which is held in a compressed state by frangible restraining element such that, when the switchmat is subjected to a predetermined minimum overload, the frangible restraining element is broken allowing the spring to relax thereby completing an electrically conductive path between the conductive members. This path is maintained after removal of the overload thereby allowing the switchmat to failsafe.
Abstract:
The use of an aromatic amine salt of a substituted pentafluoroantimonic acid as a curing agent for epoxy resins, and the use of the epoxy resin compositions as binders for abrasives in abrasive sheet products, are disclosed. The aromatic amines are selected from aniline and hindered aromatic amines.
Abstract:
A method of making a microporous material is provided which comprises the steps of melt blending crystallizable thermoplastic polymer with a compound which is miscible with the thermoplastic polymer at the melting temperature of the polymer but phase separates on cooling at or below the crystallization temperature of the polymer, forming a shaped article of the melt blend, cooling the shaped article to a temperature at which the polymer crystallizes to cause phase separation to occur between the thermoplastic polymer and the compound to provide an article comprising a first phase comprising particles of crystallized thermoplastic polymer in a second phase of said compound, orienting the article in at least one direction to provide a network of interconnected micropores throughout. The microporous article comprises about 30 to 80 parts by weight crystallizable thermoplastic polymer and about 70 to 20 parts by weight of the compound. The oriented article has a microporous structure characterized by a multiplicity of spaced randomly dispersed, equiaxed, non-uniform shaped particles of the thermoplastic polymer which are coated with the compound. Adjacent thermoplastic particles within the article are connected to each other by a plurality of fibrils consisting of the thermoplastic polymer. The fibrils radiate in three dimensions from each particle. The compound may be removed from the sheet article. e.g., by solvent extraction. The preferred article is a sheet material.

An apparatus for converting facsimile coded data to video data utilizing a programmed digital computer for receiving the facsimile coded data buffering the facsimile coded data and converting the facsimile coded data to a fixed length intermediate code. The fixed length intermediate code is then hardware converted to the video data.
Abstract:
