Abstract: The present invention provides a getter material configured by a pressed powder mixture comprising Ba—Al alloy powder and Ni powder, wherein when the pressed powder mixture is heated in a vacuum atmosphere or an inert gas atmosphere, a temperature at which an exothermic reaction starts is ranging from 750° C. to 900° C. According to this getter material, since the temperature at which the pressed powder mixture starts the exothermic reaction is set within a range from 750° C. to 900° C., there can be provided a getter material and an evaporation type getter device capable of suitably controlling an evaporation amount of getter components under a stable condition, and is excellent in responsiveness because a time ranging from a starting time of heating the getter material to a starting time of evaporation of the getter components can be shortened. In addition, the metal container to be filled with the getter material is free from deformation and melting, and a heat-evaporation process time of the getter material can be shortened, so that there can be provided the evaporation type getter device excellent in responsiveness because a time required for the electron tube to attain to a predetermined vacuum degree can be also shortened.

Abstract: A deoxidizer for absorbing and removing oxygen from the surrounding atmosphere, comprising oxygen-deficient cerium oxide having a powder form with a specific surface area of 0.6 m2/g or less or the form of a formed body with a specific surface area of 3.0 m2/g or less. The deoxidizer reacts with oxygen even in a moisture-free atmosphere, does not trigger a metal detector nor heat up when microwaved in a microwave oven, and is prevented from abruptly reacting with oxygen and igniting even when brought into direct exposure to the air. The deoxidizer is therefore suited for oxygen removal, for example, inside food packages.

Abstract: A device for controlling relative humidity in an environment with a solidified humectant composition. The solidified humectant composition is made from a humectant salt, water, and a carrier. The solidified humectant may be formed into a tablet with the aid of a binder, or it may be contained within a thermoformed felt material, a sachet, or a water permeable canister. In a preferred embodiment, the sachet is made of a micro-perforated polyester/paper/polyethylene material. Preferred humectant salts include CaCl2, K2CO3, LiCl2, NaCl, K2SO4, and combinations thereof. A preferred embodiment of the present invention includes the use of one or more of: an antimicrobial agent, activated carbon, a volatile organic, a moisture adsorber and an oxygen absorber, in combination with the solidified humectant salt.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of recovering hydrocarbons or low polarity organic chemicals from hard surfaces, water and water surfaces, in their vapor state and from porous substrates. The hydrocarbons or low-polarity organic chemicals may be included in a spill. More particularly, the invention relates to the absorption of certain hydrocarbons and low-polarity organic chemicals by applying thermoplastic elastomers of a triblock copolymer of the general configuration A-B-A. The preferred A-B-A copolymer of the invention is a low to medium molecular weight hydrogenated polystyrene-poly(isoprene+butadiene)-polystyrene or polystyrene-b-ethylene/ethylene-propylene-b-styrene block copolymer. The method of forming a three-dimensional object from a hydrocarbon or low-polarity organic chemical absorbing substance includes: applying pressure to particles of a polymeric material comprising a styrene-ethylene/ethylene/propylene triblock copolymer containing from approximately 20 to 40 percent styrene, and; heating the particles for a period of time sufficient to form the three-dimensional object.
