A low cost trigger sprayer has a housing with a first liquid passage containing a spinner assembly. An elastomeric pump element is positioned generally horizontally such that pulling the trigger retracts the element and releasing the trigger allows the element to extend. The sprayer includes a low cost spinner assembly and low cost valving to control the flow of liquid within the sprayer. In one aspect of the invention, the housing has front and rear sections with the rear section having a saddle portion and being hinged to the front section for pivotal movement from an open position for molding the housing to a closed position for operating the sprayer. In another aspect of the invention, the container has a rear portion which extends upwardly past the neck and defining a saddle recess, with the housing connected to the neck of the container and positioned forwardly of the upwardly extending container portion. The sprayer may include an elastomeric spring for biasing the pump element in the extended position.

An improved dip tube for a hand operated dispensing device is disclosed comprising a longitudinally extending dip tube having an outer surface and an inner surface for defining a wall thickness therebetween. A plurality of surface projections protrude from the outer surface of the dip tube and extend longitudinally along the dip tube. The plurality of surface projections are uniformly disposed about the dip tube for defining a plurality of recessed portions therebetween. The plurality of surface projections define major wall thickness portions for providing structural strength for the dip tube. The improved dip tube provides a conventional cross-section area of the internal channel with a reduced volume of material used in the construction of the improved dip tube.

A dispensing container including a interior barrier bag is disclosed, along with a method for filling the barrier bag with a material to be dispensed. The dispensing structure includes a non-vented pump and a dip tube structure, and a mechanism for venting the interior of the container to the atmosphere and for venting the interior of the barrier bag during filling. During assembly and filling, the barrier bag is wrapped or collapsed around the dip tube structure, so that the dip tube structure and the barrier bag can be easily inserted into a conventional container. After insertion, the barrier bag is inflated (with either an air blast or the introduction of the dispensed product) and filled with product. After filling a pump structure can be attached to the container. The method and apparatus allow a barrier bag device to be used on conventionally-designed container structures. The method and apparatus are particularly useful with containers which are made up at least partially of recycled materials.

A preformed member incorporating the passage is inserted in a mold and the parison is blown into contact therewith.
