摘要: An electrolysis cell for electrolyzing water into hydrogen and oxygen. The electrolysis cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), a porous transport layer (PTL), and an anode catalyst layer. The PTL includes a PTL surface facing the PEM and including a PTL surface morphology. The anode catalyst layer is deposited on the PTL surface morphology to form a porous transport electrode (PTE) on the PTL surface including contact regions between the PEM and the PTL. The PTL includes noncontact regions between the contact regions along the PTL surface morphology. The noncontact regions are spaced apart from the PEM.

摘要: Provided herein are systems and methods for operating carbon oxide (COx) reduction reactors (CRRs) for producing methane (CH4). Embodiments of the systems and methods may also be used for producing other organic compounds including alcohols, carboxylic acids, and other hydrocarbons such as ethylene (CH2CH2). According to various embodiments, the systems and methods may be characterized by one or more of the following features. In some embodiments, a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) includes a cathode catalyst layer with a relatively low catalyst loading. In some embodiments, a bipolar MEA includes a thin cation-conducting layer and a thin anion-conducting layer, with the cation-conducting layer being thicker than the anion-conducting layer. In other embodiments a pure anion exchange polymer only membrane may be used to bridge the cathode catalyst and the anode catalyst. These and other features are described further below.

摘要: The invention relates to an electrolytic cell for polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis with a cathode half-cell and an anode half-cell, the cathode half-cell and the anode half-cell being separated from one another by means of a polymer electrolyte membrane. The cathode half-cell has a first catalyst material designed to catayse a reduction of molecular oxygen, and a second catalyst material designed to catalyae a reduction of hydrogen ions. The first catalyst material is introduced into a first catalyst layer and the second catalyst material is introduced into a second catalyst layer different from the first catalyst layer, the first catalyst layer being disposed directly adjacent to the second catalyst layer. The invention also relates to a method for producing an electrolytic cell for polymer electrolyte membrane electrolysis.

摘要: An environment control system utilizes oxygen and humidity control devices that are coupled with an enclosure to independently control the oxygen concentration and the humidity level within the enclosure. An oxygen depletion device may be an oxygen depletion electrolyzer cell that reacts with oxygen within the cell and produces water through electrochemical reactions. A desiccating device may be g, a dehumidification electrolyzer cell, a desiccator, a membrane desiccator or a condenser. A controller may control the amount of voltage and/or current provided to the oxygen depletion electrolyzer cell and therefore the rate of oxygen reduction and may control the amount of voltage and/or current provided to the dehumidification electrolyzer cell and therefore the rate of humidity reduction. The oxygen level may be determined by the measurement of voltage and a limiting current of the oxygen depletion electrolyzer cell. The enclosure may be a food or artifact enclosure.

摘要: A method for manufacturing a composite in which at least one of an elemental metal or a metal compound is carried on a carrier. The method includes exposing a dispersion liquid containing a solvent and the carrier to a reduced-pressure environment of less than 80 kPa (absolute pressure) at normal temperature, preparing a raw material mixture liquid by mixing a metal-ion supplying agent which is a metal ion source of the elemental metal or the metal compound with the dispersion liquid, and mixing a reducing agent with the raw material mixture liquid and causing the elemental metal or the metal compound to be carried on a surface of the carrier.

摘要: Cation exchange membranes and materials including silica-based ceramics, and associated methods, are provided. In some aspects, cation exchange membranes that include a silica-based ceramic that forms a coating on and/or within a porous support membrane are described. The cation exchange membranes and materials may have certain structural or chemical attributes (e.g., pore size/distribution, chemical functionalization) that, alone or in combination, can result in advantageous performance characteristics in any of a variety of applications for which selective transport of positively charged ions through membranes/materials is desired. In some embodiments, the silica-based ceramic contains relatively small pores (e.g., substantially spherical nanopores) that may contribute to some such advantageous properties. In some embodiments, the cation exchange membrane or material includes sulfonate and/or sulfonic acid groups covalently bound to the silica-based ceramic.
