摘要: Described herein relates to apparatus and method for developing a free-standing zwitterion-promoted hybrid clay film having excellent ionic conductivity, thermal stability, and/or chemical stability. As such, in an embodiment the clay film apparatus may comprise biocompatible materials, including but not limited to clay and trimethyl glycine (hereinafter “TMG”), also known as a zwitterion. Additionally, in an embodiment, the clay film apparatus may be synthesized utilizing a simple method for making a free-standing flexible, non-polymeric clay film. Moreover, in an embodiment, the prepared film's increased porosity, superior thermal and chemical stability, electrically insulating, and ionic conductivity, as compared to clay films known in the art, may make it an excellent material for energy applications as an ion-conducting membrane. The applications may include but are not limited to battery separators, electrolyte membranes in fuel cells, and solid electrolyte membranes in batteries.

摘要: Methods of preparing reinforced anion exchange membranes are provided, as well as produced membranes and corresponding devices utilizing the membranes. Methods comprise compounding a halide-functionalized polymer (selected to react with amines to yield anion-conducting quaternary amine groups) with thermoplastic polymer(s) (selected to support and/or reinforce the membrane), and with copolymer(s) (selected to enhance the compounding of the polymers)—by heating, mixing and cooling—to form blend pellets, extruding the blend pellets to form a blend film, cross-linking polymer(s), and functionalizing the blend film to prepare the anion exchange membrane. Functionalization comprises a quaternization step comprising reacting halogen groups of the first polymer with tertiary amines to produce the quaternary amine groups with ion-exchange functionality. Reinforced anion exchange membranes are provided, which are produced by the disclosed methods, functionalized to yield a membrane for fuel cell(s), electrolyzer(s), reversible electrochemical device(s), desalination unit(s), etc.

摘要: The invention relates to:—anion exchange blend membranes consisting the following blend components:—a halomethylated polymer (a polymer with —(CH2)x—CH2—Hal groups, Hal=F, Cl, Br, I; x=0-12), which is quaternised with a tertiary or a n-alkylated/n-arylated imidazole, an N-alkylated/N-arylated benzimidazole or an N-alkylated/N-arylated pyrazol to form an anion exchanger polymer. - an inert matrix polymer in which the anion exchange polymer is embedded and which is optionally covalently crosslinked with the halomethylated precursor of the anion exchanger polymer,—a polyethyleneglycol with epoxide or halomethyl terminal groups which are anchored by reacting with N—H-groups of the base matrix polymer using convalent cross-linking—optionally an acidic polymer which forms with the anion-exchanger polymer an ionic cross-linking (negative bound ions of the acidic polymer forming ionic cross-linking positions relative to the positive cations of the anion-exchanger polymer)—optionally a sulphonated polymer (polymer with sulphate groups —SO2Me, Me=any cation), which forms with the halomethyl groups of the halomethylated polymer convalent crosslinking bridges with sulfinate S-alkylation. The invention also relates to a method for producing said membranes, to the use of said membranes in electrochemical energy conversion processes (e.g. Redox-flow batteries and other flow batteries, PEM-electrolyses, membrane fuel cells), and in other membrane methods (e.g. electrodialysis, diffusion dialysis).

摘要: Cation exchange membranes and materials including silica-based ceramics, and associated methods, are provided. In some aspects, cation exchange membranes that include a silica-based ceramic that forms a coating on and/or within a porous support membrane are described. The cation exchange membranes and materials may have certain structural or chemical attributes (e.g., pore size/distribution, chemical functionalization) that, alone or in combination, can result in advantageous performance characteristics in any of a variety of applications for which selective transport of positively charged ions through membranes/materials is desired. In some embodiments, the silica-based ceramic contains relatively small pores (e.g., substantially spherical nanopores) that may contribute to some such advantageous properties. In some embodiments, the cation exchange membrane or material includes sulfonate and/or sulfonic acid groups covalently bound to the silica-based ceramic.

摘要: Purifying target biomolecules, such as nucleic acids or proteins, from a biological source is a time intensive process and is typically performed by a skilled technician or scientist owing to the highly technical nature of the work. Systems, devices, and methods disclosed herein enable the automated bioprocessing and purification of target biomolecules from a biological source. For example, an instrument and disposable cartridge are provided for automatedly isolating and purifying nucleic acids (such as plasmid DNA from a bacterial culture) or for isolating protein from any biological sample. Such an exemplary instrument and cartridge can work in concert to timely release, mix, and move the target biomolecule and various reagents and buffers through a target biomolecule purification process, resulting in a purified target biomolecule with less manual oversight than traditional approaches.

摘要: A process for removing Co2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cr3+ toxins from bodily fluids is disclosed. The process involves contacting the bodily fluid with an ion exchange composition to remove the metal toxins in the bodily fluid, including blood and gastrointestinal fluid. Alternatively, blood can be contacted with a dialysis solution which is then contacted with the ion exchange composition. The ion exchange compositions are represented by the following empirical formula:

A composition comprising the above ion exchange compositions in combination with bodily fluids or dialysis solution is also disclosed. The ion exchange compositions may be supported by porous networks of biocompatible polymers such as carbohydrates or proteins.-

摘要: A preparation method of a high-moisture-permeability fluorine-containing super-oleophobic microporous membrane is provided having the following steps: (1) preparing a white opaque mixture of fluorine-containing polymers: adding the materials in sequence according to a weight ratio of A50%˜90%:B3%˜25%:C0%˜35%:D0 %˜3%, and stirring and mixing uniformly in a non-shear manner; A is a blend of a high molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion resin and a fluorine-containing ion exchange resin; B is a fluorine-containing alkyl acrylate monomer, or a fluorine-containing alkyl methacrylate monomer, or a mixture thereof; C is a polyurethane acrylate prepolymer, or a fluorine-free alkyl acrylate monomer, or a mixture thereof; D is a high temperature free radical initiator; (2) pouring the white opaque mixture into the blank pressing column barrel, and pressing a blank; (3) calendering into strips; (4) stretching and thermally shaping to form a membrane.
