Abstract: A system and method for recovering from a configuration error are disclosed. A Basic Input Output System (BIOS) configures a memory associated with a node of an information handling system and enables a progress monitoring process during configuration of the memory. The memory is disabled if the BIOS determines that a configuration error occurred and a memory reference code associated with the memory is modified in order to prevent a reset of the information handling system.

Abstract: Techniques for adaptive interface support are described. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to execute a basic input/output system (BIOS), determine a respective impedance state for each of one or more pins in an M.2 physical interface, determine an interface type for a peripheral device coupled with the M.2 physical interface based on the impedance states for the one or more pins, and control an operational state of the peripheral device during execution of the BIOS, based on the interface type for the peripheral device. Abstract: An information processing apparatus that can execute a start-up process properly, even when electric power is cut off without performing a normal power turn-OFF process. A first storage unit stores a program. A second storage unit continues holding information even when a power supply stops. A third storage unit stores information showing a power-OFF-timing state of the information processing apparatus. A control unit determines whether the information showing the power-OFF-timing state obtained from the third storage unit needs read-out of a program at a power ON timing of the information processing apparatus, performs a start-up process after reading and developing the program from the first storage unit to the second storage unit when the read-out of the program is needed, and performs the start-up process without reading and developing the program from the first storage unit to the second storage unit when the read-out of the program is not needed.

Abstract: In an approach for selecting a boot-up path in a multi-node server, a processor receives a first set of computing capability data for a first boot-up path of a server and a second set of computing capability data for a second boot-up path of the server. A processor compares the first set of computing capability data to the second set of computing capability data. A processor determines that the first boot-up path has greater computing capabilities than the second boot-up path based on the comparison. Responsive to determining the first boot-up path has greater computing capabilities, a processor boots-up the server using the first boot-up path.

Abstract: Systems and methods facilitating a framework that provides a core trusted computing base (TCB) of an electronic device with various security capabilities. The framework can include a low-resource device and at least one distributed resource. The low-resource device can be configured to generate sealing keys, migration keys, and attestation keys that are based on a device secret associated with the low-resource device and one or more software modules. The low-resource device can further be configured to use the migration keys and the sealing keys to both verify a software update and migrate secrets from a previous version of the software to a newer version of the software. Additionally, the low-resource device can be configured to generate an attestation statement using the attestation keys and perform attestation using the attestation statement and the at least one distributed resource.

Abstract: A software layout system is described herein that speeds up computer system boot time and/or application initialization time by moving constant data and executable code into byte-addressable, persistent random access memory (BPRAM). The system determines which components and aspects of the operating system or application change infrequently. From this information, the system builds a high performance BPRAM cache to provide faster access to these frequently used components, including the kernel. The result is that kernel or application code and data structures have a high performance access and execution time with regard to memory fetches. Thus, the software layout system provides a faster way to prepare operating systems and applications for normal operation and reduces the time spent on initialization.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include systems and methods for encrypting a virtual machine image and accessing an encrypted virtual machine image. According to some embodiments an encryption module can encrypt a virtual machine image and place an encryption boot loader. The encryption boot loader may be extracted from the encrypted virtual machine image, be transmitted to, and stored at a key storage system. Upon a request to boot an operating system associated with the encrypted virtual machine image, a pre-boot execution environment may communicate with an image service to retrieve the encryption boot loader from the remote key storage system. The virtual machine image may therefore be decrypted suing the encryption boot loader, which may allow booting of the operating system.
