The conveyors 24 and 29 confine the bags in chambers, with the bags being engaged by pressure assemblies 50 so that the bags that leak are reduced in volume. The bags are engaged at a downstream position and at an upstream position by detection devices 44 that provide a signal indicative of the volume of each bag. These signals are compared to thereby identify bags that leak.

These ejector dogs are arranged so that upon impact on the blank edge they are shifted and/or tilted in a damped manner, and with absorption of energy, with respect to the transport conveyor, in the opposite direction to the ejection direction, thus reducing the forces acting on the edge of the blank. As transport conveyor, the preferred embodiment has a toothed belt which is elastically deformed and deflected from its path upon impact of the dog on the blank edge, so that the belt itself acts as damper and as return spring for the dog.

A coiler can transporting assembly for advancing coiler cans in a transporting direction to a sliver-producing textile machine. The assembly includes coiler cans each having a bottom forming a conveying face; and a conveyor element having a discharge end and an upper transporting surface engaging the conveying face of the coiler cans when in an upright, standing position on the conveyor element. The conveying face and the transporting surface have a low friction value relative to one another. A can-stopping device is situated at a location along the conveyor element and has first and second states. In the first state the can-stopping device blocks advancement of a coiler can while the conveyor element continues to move in the transporting direction. In the second state the can-stopping device allows advancement of a coiler can therethrough.

In a work table apparatus for a plate material processing machine, a group of work supporting belts each extending in a work feed direction and divided in the direction perpendicular to the work feed direction are arranged so as to form a work table surface separated into front and rear support portions on both sides of a plate material processing section, and the work supporting belts are driven in the work feed direction in synchronism with the movement of the plate material to be processed. Therefore, no relative displacement is produced between the work support portions of the work supporting belts and the plate material to be processed. Thus, punched products of small size can be supported securely without damaging the microjoint portions of the processed products, scratching the plate material, and producing sound noise. Further, since the work support portions can be lowered selectively from the work pass line, downward projecting portions can be formed in the plate material and further the downward formed projecting portions can be supported by the lowered work support portions, thus preventing the downward deflection of the processed material. Further, since the front and rear side work support portions can be moved or urged horizontally toward each other, it is possible to effectively support the plate material by reducing as much as possible the area at which the plate material is not supported by the belts.

A conveyor system for conveying relatively planar articles, e.g. biscuits, comprises a first conveyor comprising a pair of runs of endless belts having operative surfaces defining a first path for biscuits. The operative surfaces of the belts face one another and are symmetrically inclined to the vertical, biscuits being conveyed thereby contacting the belts by their peripheries, and, when at least two biscuits are in contact, assuming an inclined attitude with the upper part of each biscuit leading. A further conveyor providing a further path for biscuits extends upwardly from the outlet end of the first path and, in the region of the outlet end of the first path, means are provided for causing or permitting a change in attitude of the biscuits to bring them to an attitude in which they are substantially parallel to the further path. The attitude changing means may comprise a member extending into a lower part of the first path to be contacted by biscuits as they approach the outlet end of the first path and/or an end portion of the first conveyor in which portion the angle between the belt runs is increased, and the attitude changing means cause or permit a reduction in the angle of inclination of the biscuits.

A container rearranging station wherein bottles or other containers enter in single file and are discharged with several of them abreast of each other. The station is comprised of three parallel running conveyor sections. All the sections are tilted at the same angle so as to provide a smooth inclined plane. A supply conveyor on which the bottles arrive in single file is the highest of those on the inclined plane and runs at the highest speed of any of them. The adjacent intermediate conveyor runs at a slightly slower speed and the adjacent lower most discharge conveyors run at a uniform but still slower speed. Inclination angles of the conveyors between the input region of the station and the output region where the containers are abreast are preferably adjustable between 8.degree. and 11.degree. so that the containers drift from the supply conveyor through the intermediate conveyor to the discharge conveyor. On the highest supply conveyor side there is a guide surface or deflector which is operative to deflect the containers off of the supply conveyor if they do not drift off early enough. Only bottles with exceptionally rough bottoms generally reach the deflector. Most of the containers slide off of the supply conveyor randomly before they reach the deflector. Thus, container collisions and noise are substantially reduced.

Apparatus for successively receiving and transporting long cut lengths of wire from a wire cutting mechanism and stacking the cut lengths in a receiver, a pair of long looped belts being supported with confronting surface faces coacting to form a longitudinally moving V-trough having an inlet and coupled with the wire delivery end of the cutting mechanism. One of the belts is supported on a fixed frame structure, and the other belt is supported upon a pivoted frame structure, a power actuator being selectively energizable to swing the pivoted frame structure in a direction to separate the converging belts and form an elongate discharge opening along the bottom of the trough through which the delivered cut wire length in the trough may be discharged by gravity into a receiver, and thereafter swing the pivoted frame in an opposite direction to close the discharge opening. Controls are provided for manually delaying the opening and closing operations of the converged belts in response to a signal from the cutting mechanism at the conclusion of each of its wire cutting operations.
