    摘要: A vehicle odometer is provided that records highway mileage traveled by a vehicle. The odometer includes a sensor for selectively activating and deactivating the recording of distance traveled by the vehicle. The sensor may be a speed sensor that is connected to a city odometer and a highway odometer. The sensor activates the city odometer to record distance traveled below a predetermined speed on the city odometer, and deactivates the highway odometer below the predetermined speed. The sensor deactivates the city odometer and activates the highway odometer at speeds above the predetermined speed to record the distance traveled above the predetermined speed on the highway odometer.

    摘要: This invention reduces the navigation error associated with the use of wheel sensor based DR as an augmentation to GPS. In order to derive accurate heading information from the wheel speeds, the distance between the centers of the tires, or the wheel track, must be known to high precision. Unfortunately, the wheel track may not be precisely known whereby different classes of the same vehicle type can produce variations of up to 5%. The current invention removes the error growth associated with wheel track error by automatically estimating and calibrating the wheel track. The wheel track is measured by computing a heading rate directly from the GPS Doppler measurements, and comparing it with the heading rate derived from the wheel sensors whereby subsequent refinements to the estimated wheel track are computed by filtering each measured track.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for modifying an odometer reading in a vehicle navigation system to compensate for odometer errors. A first distance measurement is obtained from the odometer, and a second distance measurement is obtained from at least one other sensor. The difference between the first and second distance measurements is determined and an adjustment amount is generated in response thereto. A modification factor is then adjusted by the adjustment amount, the modification factor being for modifying the odometer reading. The odometer reading is then modified with the modification factor. A method and apparatus for selecting a pulse rate setting in a vehicle navigation system to correspond to a pulse rate associated with the odometer are also described. A first distance measurement is obtained from the odometer and a second distance measurement is obtained from at least one other sensor. The difference between the first and second distance measurements is then determined. The pulse rate setting is changed to correspond to the odometer pulse rate if the difference is greater than a threshold level, and is left unchanged if the difference is less than the threshold level.
