摘要: Dual-purpose additives that may be used as viscosifying agents and surface active agents in fluids, subterranean treatments and oilfield operations are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising a base fluid and a polymeric dual-purpose additive comprising a base polymer comprising a plurality of monomer units, and one or more hydrophobic groups bonded to at least one of the monomer units; introducing the treatment fluid into at least a portion of a subterranean formation; and depolymerizing at least a portion of the dual-purpose additive to form one or more surface active fragments, each of the surface active fragments comprising one or more of the hydrophobic groups bonded to one or more of the monomer units.

摘要: Methods for selecting a surfactant for treating a subterranean formation based on the performance of the surfactant and the characteristics of the subterranean formation and the treatment fluids that may be used to treat that formation are provided. In one embodiment, the method may comprise providing a treatment fluid, formation materials, hydrocarbon, and a plurality of surfactants, wherein the hydrocarbon is acquired from a subterranean formation; selecting at least two surfactants from the plurality of surfactants by determining whether each of the plurality of surfactants separates a mixture of the treatment fluid and the hydrocarbon; and selecting at least one surfactant from the at least two surfactants by determining whether the hydrocarbon displaces the treatment fluid from the formation materials in the presence of each of the at least two surfactants.

摘要: Compounds comprising multiple hydrophilic heads and a lipophilic tail may be employed into fluids to inhibit agglomeration of hydrates, among other things. Suitable hydrophilic heads may include secondary, tertiary, and/or quaternary ammonium cation moieties, phosphonium cation moieties, and combinations thereof. Such LDHI compounds may provide enhanced interactivity with hydrate crystals and/or hydrate-forming molecules. These compounds may be employed in fluids in various environments, such as a conduit penetrating a subterranean formation, or a conduit carrying fluid in an industrial setting.

摘要: Working fluids, such as drilling fluids, may remove heat from other fluids, tools, equipments and environments and transfer it to other locations by using reversible phase change elements. The heat removal occurs through the absorption of heat by one or more phase transitions or a sequence of phase transitions in the elements of the working fluid. For instance, heat is absorbed when the phase change portions of the reversible phase change elements change phase including, but not necessarily limited to, a change from solid to smectic liquid crystal, from solid to nematic liquid crystal, from smectic liquid crystal to isotropic liquid, from nematic liquid crystal to isotropic liquid, from solid to isotropic liquid, and sequences and combinations thereof. Heat is released when the phase change reverses. These phase changes are first-order transitions and are associated with a latent heat or enthalpy.

摘要: A method of fracture fluid clean-up from a fracture by assisting Darcy flow with electro-osmotic effects is provided. Proppants having suitable surface potential, and fracture fluids having suitable electrical conductivity are employed. A suitable electric field is imposed, using electrodes placed on the surface or in adjacent wells. The current creates an electro-osmotic flow that carries fluid to the wellbore.
