摘要: A device for screening unwanted telephone calls is connectable at a stationetween a telephone set and a wall outlet plug. In response to ringing current received at the station and signaling an incoming call, the device delays audible ringing at the station for a 2.5 second period. During such period, the call's sender transmits to the station a # dial signal only if the call is in a special category as, say one undertaken to try to make a sale. If such # signal is received during such period, the device transmits back to the sender a return signal acknowledging that the call has been received and rejected at the station, and the device then hangs up call at the station without any audible ringing taking place there. If no such # signal is so received, audible ringing occurs at the line upon expiration of such period, and the call continues in its normal sequence.

摘要: Apparatus for terminating conductors on circuit boards. The apparatus comses an insulator member having electrical conducting contacts embedded therein each with a bifurcate portion extending from the insulator member. The bifurcate portion consists of a pair of prongs arranged for engaging a conductor and a complaint section having an end formed both for piercing insulation of the conductor and insertion into a circuit board plated-through hole to establish an electrical connection between the engaged conductor and circuit board.

摘要: A time manager for a personal terminal can be generally characterized as a things-to-do file in which the user inputs a to-do reminder message along with a data and time that the terminal user wants to be alerted (reminded). The notion of a terminal time manager is advanced by displaying reminder messages directed to calling a named entity that is contained in the terminal telephone directory and by automatically calling the named entity when the user points to the displayed reminder. If the user inputs the actual telephone number to be called in place of the named entity, then the telephone number will be called even though the telephone number is not contained in the directory.

摘要: A line switch for a telephone set comprises a lever rockably mounted in thetand for the set and having as a rear part a plunger fin received in a slot passing through the stand to a handset cradle on its top. The lever has at its front a head carrying on its underside a pair of metal leaf springs of which front portions form spring contacts disposed over corresponding electroconductive pads on a printed wiring board mounted within the stand. The lever is biased by a torque spring to yieldably hold the upper part of the fin in the cradle. Removal and replacement of a handset from and to the cradle actuates the lever to produce engagement and disengagement, respectively, of the spring contacts with their corresponding pads. Such spring contacts and pads form, electrically speaking, a line switch adapted upon such engagement and disengagement, respectively, to produce a "short" and an "open" of terminations at the set of the tip and ring leads therefor.

摘要: A touch-sensitive device comprising a photoelastic screen having light reflecting edges and a unique light emitting/receiving module placed at two of the four corners of the screen advantageously determines the location at which a force is applied to the screen. Circularly and linearly polarized light focused into the photoelastic screen by the modules reflects off the edges of the screen and is returned to the modules where it is absorbed by a circular polarizer. The polarization of light passing through a point at which the screen is touched is changed thereby allowing these rays or signals to pass through each module's absorber. The location as well as the magnitude and direction of the force imparted to the screen by the touch is then determined from the changes in the signals that pass through the absorber.

摘要: A power transfer arrangement provides regulated power transfer from a station to a contactless portable data card without the need for regulation circuitry on the card itself. The station includes a primary coil for magnetically coupling power to a secondary coil, located on the card, when the data card is brought into close association with the station. The arrangment includes a microprocessor, a power amplifier including the primary coil, a variable voltage source and apparatus for measuring current flow in the primary coil. When the portable data card is not in close association with the station, the microprocessor causes the variable voltage source to provide a sequence of stepped voltages. Quiescent current flow is measured at each step and stored in memory. When the portable data card is brought into close association with the station, the microprocessor causes the variable voltage source to provide a sequence of stepped voltages. Active current flow is measured at each step and stored in memory. Power delivered to the data card is calculated as the difference between active and quiescent currents--multiplied by the magnitude of the variable voltage source. The sequence of active current measurements continues until the calculated value of power delivered to the data card exceeds a predetermined threshold power, at which time the data card is receiving a precise, predetermined amount of power.

摘要: Control equipment employed in a customer-owned public telephone station prevents a user from making unauthorized telephone calls in the telephone system. Operating under the control of a computer in the station, the control equipment is responsive to momentary loop breaks occurring on tip and ring lines connecting the station to a central office, and to a loop break provided by the central office which reflects that the far end party has disconnected. The control equipment is also responsive to scheduled as well as as unscheduled receipt of dial tone. The combination of ongoing loop break and dial tone detection and analysis conveniently provides the desired protection for reliable operation of the customer-owned public telephone station in the telephone system. Restrictions incorporated in the station for obtaining the desired protection are applied with minimal inconvenience for the legitimate user.
