    摘要: A cable installation system for use by a cable installer may include a plurality of cable dispensers having different lengths of cable. In particular, each cable dispenser may also have a non-numeric, length-identifying marking associated therewith corresponding to the length of cable. Furthermore, the system may also include a cable dispenser indicator device for use by the installer to determine a distance between first and second locations, such as a cable tap and a subscriber interface. The cable dispenser indicator device may also provide an indication to the installer of the non-numeric, length-identifying marking corresponding to the determined distance so that the cable installer can select the corresponding cable dispenser from the plurality thereof. By way of example, the non-numeric, length-identifying markings may include a series of different colors and/or graphics for respective length ranges.

    摘要: A method of making a coaxial cable includes forming a conductive tube and setting a settable material therein to define an inner conductor. Forming may include advancing a conductive strip and bending it into a tube having a longitudinal seam. The settable material may be dispensed onto the conductive strip continuously with the forming. Alternately, the settable material may be dispensed onto the conductive strip prior to advancing. The dispensing may use a puller cord as the settable material or carrying some or all of the settable material. The method may further include forming a dielectric layer surrounding the inner conductor, and forming an outer conductor surrounding the dielectric layer.

    摘要: A coaxial cable connector includes a connector housing, a back nut threadingly engaging a rearward end of the connector housing, a ferrule gripping and advancing an end of the coaxial cable into the connector housing as the back nut is tightened, and an insulator member positioned within a medial portion of the connector housing. The insulator member may have a bore extending therethrough and include a forward disk portion, a rearward disk portion, a ring portion connecting the forward and disk portions together, and a tubular outer conductor support portion extending rearwardly from the rearward disk portion for supporting an interior surface of the outer conductor of the end of the coaxial cable. The insulator member may an integrally formed monolithic member and the ring portion may have a reduced strength portion therein.

    摘要: A coaxial cable is provided with a specially prepared precoat layer that facilitates removal of the precoat layer when the end of the cable is cored in preparation for receiving a connector. The cable includes an inner conductor; a foam polyolefin dielectric layer surrounding the inner conductor; an outer conductor surrounding said dielectric layer; and a precoat layer disposed between the inner conductor and the dielectric layer. The precoat layer forms a first bond interface with the inner conductor and a second bond interface with the dielectric layer, wherein the ratio of the axial shear adhesion force of the first (“A”) bond to the axial shear adhesive force of the second (“B”) bond is less than 1, and wherein the ratio of the axial shear adhesion force of the “A” bond formed by the precoat layer between the inner conductor to the dielectric layer to the rotational shear adhesion force of the bond is 5 or greater.

    摘要: A cable deployment and storage system includes a cable reel mounting device, and a cable reel for carrying a length of cable. The cable reel includes a hub that may be rotatably mounted on the cable reel mounting device during deployment of the length of cable, a pair of inner end flanges carried by respective opposing ends of the hub, and a pair of removable outer end flanges carried by respective inner end flanges to contain the length of cable therebetween during deployment. The outer end flanges may thereafter be removed to reduce a size of the cable reel. The pair of inner end flanges may store any remaining length of cable therebetween after deployment. The cable may include connectors installed at each end during manufacturing.

    摘要: A coaxial cable includes an elongate inner conductor. A dielectric layer surrounds the inner conductor. A first outer conductor surrounds the dielectric layer and has perforations defined therein. A second outer conductor surrounds the first outer conductor. A polymeric jacket surrounds the second outer conductor. The cable is adapted such that, when the dielectric layer is melted, at least a portion thereof and/or smoke therefrom can flow through the perforations in the first outer conductor. According to some embodiments, the second outer conductor defines a plurality of voids therein and, when the dielectric layer is melted, at least a portion thereof and/or smoke therefrom can flow through the perforations in the first outer conductor and into the voids. According to some embodiments, the second outer conductor is braided.
