    摘要: A tool for extracting a pin from a substrate comprises a first lever arm with a body part having a cavity in which the free end of a pin can be received, and a second lever arm which can pivot relative to the first lever arm. A jaw component is provided within the body part which can be actuated from an unlocked position in which a pin within the jaw component can slide freely past the jaw component, and a locked position in which the pin is gripped by engagement of the jaw component with the side wall of the pin, and a support is provided which can slide relative to the body part, in a direction towards the substrate from which the pin is to be extracted. Initial movement of the first lever arm relative to the second lever arm causes the jaw component to be actuated from its unlocked position to its locked position so that an inserted pin is gripped by the jaw component. Continued movement of the first lever arm relative to the second lever arm causes the support to slide relative to the body part, so that an inserted pin which is gripped by the jaw component is displaced relative to the substrate.

    摘要: An instrument for removing tissue from a bone to create a cavity consists of an approximately spherical body having cutting formations in its external surface for cutting a bone. The body has a connector by which it can be connected to a drive by which it can be rotated about an axis, and a recess at the pole, opposite the connector. When the instrument is applied to the surface of a bone and is rotated about its axis, bone is cut as a result of the action of the formations against the bone, and a circular region of bone adjacent to the polar recess in the body remains generally intact.

    摘要: A prosthesis arranged to be coupled to a bone. The prosthesis comprises a substrate (2) having a surface (6). The surface (6) of the substrate (2) has a first area and a second area, the first area being treated such that osseointegration is promoted more than in the second area. The interface (12) between the first and second areas forms an alignment mark to assist alignment of the prosthesis relative to a bone. The prosthesis is arranged to be at least partially inserted into a bone cavity such that the position of the alignment mark relative to the bone cavity is indicative of the angle of insertion of the prosthesis or the alignment mark provides a position reference for determining the implanted position of the prosthesis in the cavity. A method of manufacturing the prosthesis and a method of implanting the prosthesis are also provided.
