摘要: The disclosure includes methods and systems for making orthopedic connections where there is unique adjustability to the connection. Illustratively, one embodiment provides a connecting assembly for connecting a plurality of orthopedic components. Such connecting assemblies can include a first orthopedic component that provides a female bore. Additionally, the assembly can include a second orthopedic component that can be or include a male-type connecting member that is positionable in the bore of the first orthopedic component. In one preferred form, the male-type connecting member will be a quasi-spherical member. The quasi-spherical member can include a textured outer surface, e.g., for contacting one or more walls or surfaces in the bore in a fashion that removably locks or helps to removably lock or fix the quasi-spherical member in the bore.

摘要: The application is directed to devices and methods where one or more magnetic or magnetizable implants provides therapeutic benefits to a patient. The implant may be useful for expanding the range of motion of joints or dynamically providing different responses to changing conditions in the body where the implant is placed. An electromagnet is placed on or in a bone on one side of a joint, and another electromagnet or magnetically active material is placed on or in a bone on the opposing side of the joint. The electromagnet may be continuously energized to relieve pressure in the joint space, or may be energized in response to forces applied to the joint.

摘要: A method of forming an implant having a porous tissue ingrowth structure and a bearing support structure. The method includes depositing a first layer of a metal powder onto a substrate, scanning a laser beam over the powder so as to sinter the metal powder at predetermined locations, depositing at least one layer of the metal powder onto the first layer and repeating the scanning of the laser beam.

摘要: The present invention provides methods of forming flexible implant devices and U-bridge implants that drive into curved trajectories to enhance implant fixation in bone. The curved drilling trajectories avoid regions of low bone mineral density, such that flexible implants and/or U-bridge implants driven into the curved drilling trajectories are anchored in regions of high bone mineral density to improve the stability of bone fixation. The flexible implants and U-bridge implants are suitable for several applications, including but not limited to spinal fixation, orthopedic bone fixation, and neurosurgery.

摘要: An example apparatus is provided for placing a first anchor in a first bone, and a locking assembly in a second bone, the first anchor and locking assembly being connected by a flexible segment that provides substantial tensile stabilization but offers little or no resistance to bending, rotation, or shear motion of the first anchor and locking assembly with respect to each other. The first anchor can include a proximal end and a distal end configured for insertion into a first hole in the first bone. The locking assembly can include a proximal end and a distal end configured for insertion into a second hole in the second bone. The flexible segment can be configured to adjust a distance between the first and second bones, while the locking assembly releasably engages the flexible segment to fix the distance between the first and second bones.

摘要: A stemless implant for shoulder arthroplasty includes a body having a proximal portion, distal portion, and an outer surface. A cylindrical extrusion is substantially perpendicular to and adjacent the proximal portion. At least a portion of the outer surface is configured to contact bone, the outer bone contacting surface comprising a concave taper. The stemless implant can be sized and shaped for insertion into a metaphysis of a humerus bone without penetrating a diaphysis of the humerus bone. The implant optionally comprises a medial fin, a lateral fin, an anterior fin, and a posterior fin. The medial fin and lateral fin may be thicker than the anterior fin. The fins may taper from the proximal portion to the distal portion.
