    Abstract: Embodiments herein describe using compressed source material to perform an atomic experiment or an atomic application within a vacuum chamber (e.g., an atom cooling and trapping apparatus). Source material is often refined and sold with dendritic or crystalline surfaces that result in a very large surface area. This surface area increases the likelihood that a large amount contaminants will form on the surface, which is especially true for reactive source materials. To mitigate the risk of contamination, in the embodiments herein the source material is compressed onto a substrate. This changes the material from having a dendritic or crystalline surface to a flat surface, which has a much smaller surface area and thus is less susceptible to contaminants which can, for example, improve the lifetime usage of the source material.

    Abstract: A data storage device includes a memory device and a controller coupled to the memory device. The controller is configured to operate under at least a first device protocol and a second device protocol, where the first and second device protocols have different endurance and protection requirements. When data is programmed to the memory device using the first device protocol, but is read from the memory device using the second device protocol, the differing endurance and protection requirements may cause issues in reading the data. In order to alleviate the issues, during idle time of the second device protocol, the controller may program the data using the endurance and protection requirements of the second device protocol to a different portion of the memory device so that the data may be read using either or both device protocols with the appropriate recovery information.

    Abstract: A method of performing an entangling gate operation using a quantum computer system includes configuring, by a classical computer, an amplitude function of an amplitude-modulated laser pulse over a plurality of time segments to cause entangling interaction between a pair of trapped ions of a plurality of trapped ions, each of the plurality of trapped ions having two frequency-separated states defining a qubit, where the amplitude function in each time segment is splined using a set of basis functions and associated control parameters, and performing an entangling gate operation between the pair of trapped ions by applying, by a system controller, an amplitude-modulated laser pulse having the configured amplitude function to the pair of trapped ions.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to flow guides, process kits, and related methods for processing chambers to facilitate deposition process adjustability. In one implementation, a process kit for disposition in a processing chamber applicable for use in semiconductor manufacturing includes a plate having a first face and a second face opposing the first face. The process kit includes a liner. The liner includes an annular section, and one or more ledges extending inwardly relative to the annular section. The one or more ledges are configured to support one or more outer regions of the second face of the plate. The liner includes one or more inlet openings extending to an inner surface of the annular section on a first side of the liner, and one or more outlet openings extending to the inner surface of the annular section on a second side of the liner.

    Abstract: An ophthalmic device includes an optic including an optic axis and a haptic structure coupled with the optic. The haptic structure includes an inner ring comprising a plurality of hinges such that portions of the inner ring reside at different radii from the optic axis. The haptic structure further includes a first loop extending from the inner ring and having two points of connection to the inner ring and a second loop extending from the inner ring and having two points of connection to the inner ring. The second loop is oriented opposite the first loop.
