    Abstract: A method of setting a bearing within a housing and a bearing cavity is disclosed. The method includes threadably advancing a threaded bushing by rotating the threaded bushing in a first rotational direction and identifying a point of contact when the threaded bushing initially contacts the bearing. Subsequently, the threaded bushing is rotated in the first rotational direction by a first predetermined rotational amount to further threadably advance in the first rotational direction so that the threaded bushing exerts a target preload on the bearing, or the threaded bushing is rotated in a second rotational direction by a second predetermined rotational amount to threadably advance the threaded bushing in a second axial direction that is opposite the first axial direction to create a target clearance between the threaded bushing and the bearing, or the threaded bushing is not further rotated to cause line-contact between the threaded bushing and the bearing.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are a shaft assembly having a dry well and a gearbox incorporating the shaft assembly. The shaft assembly may include a housing having an opening and a lubricant reservoir. A tubular member may be fixed in the opening and extend above a surface of lubricant that collects in the lubricant reservoir during operation. At least one sealing member may be positioned between the tubular member and an inner wall defining the opening. A solid shaft may extend through the tubular member and have an outer diameter that is smaller than an inner diameter of the tubular member, thereby defining a dry well between the solid shaft and the tubular member. A bearing mount may be arranged about the tubular member and may be removably connected to a gear associated with the solid shaft. A method of assembling a gearbox incorporating the shaft assembly is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A gearbox includes a main housing carrying input and output shafts, a carrier mounted to the housing having a bore, an isolator plate mounted to the carrier having a bore aligned with the carrier bore, and an isolator mounted to the isolator plate having a bore aligned with the isolator plate and carrier bores. The carrier includes an oil collection well, spaced from the bore, and an oil return channel in fluid communication with the oil collection well that extends through the carrier to the main housing. The isolator plate includes an interior surface and an oil passage formed therein that extends from the interior surface to the oil collection well, such that the interior surface is in fluid communication with the main housing via the oil passage, the oil collection well and the oil return channel, and fluid at the interior surface is drawn into the main housing via the oil passage, the oil collection well and the oil return channel.
