The invention is based on an adaptive transmission control wherein changes in the gear ratio of the automatic transmission are determined in dependence upon the detected position of the accelerator pedal actuated by the driver or variables associated therewith and in dependence upon the vehicle straight-line speed and/or the output rpm of the transmission and/or the motor rpm or variables associated therewith. Also, an adaptive variable is determined which adapts the changes of the transmission gear ratio at least to the driving situation then present. The essence of the invention is that the path data of a navigation system is used to determine the above-mentioned adaptation variable. The navigation system is a known map-supported navigation system. In this way, it is advantageously possible to precisely detect the present as well as future driving and environmental situations to which the vehicle is just then subjected or will be subjected in the near future. Accordingly, a very precise estimate of the then existing driving or environmental situation is obtained to which the vehicle is just then subjected or will be subjected in the near future. Shifting strategy can be adapted to these present and future driving situations.

At the same time, different states of the respective variant of the element are selected, in particular through the operating means, an identifier being assigned for each possible state. The respective identifier contains control information, and the control unit analyzes the control information of the identifier and controls the respective variant of the element in accordance with the analysis of the control information.

The invention proceeds from a system for considering differing amounts of components for determining at least one control quantity such as for controlling the operation of a motor vehicle. Such a system is known from the state of the art wherein a value is determined as a control quantity for the adaptive transmission control. This value characterizes the type of driver or the driving style. At least two different supply objects (for example, start-up evaluation, gradient evaluation) are provided with the aid of which, for each case, a component for determining the control quantity is determined. The determined components are then supplied to at least one collector which forms the evaluation quantity, for example, by maximum formation, weighted and/or moving-window sum formation of the individually determined components. The essence of the invention is that means are provided with which the supply of the components of the supply objects is controlled to the collector. With the system of the invention, it is possible in a simple manner to adapt the number of components, which are to be considered for the formation of the evaluation quantity, to the particular situation.

The invention is directed to a system for adjusting a transmission ratio in a transmission built into a motor vehicle. The system includes at least two transmission ratio criteria with which first transmission ratios are determined based on at least two different determining modes. The system also includes a first arrangement with the aid of which a second transmission ratio is selected in accordance with a pregiven prioritization from the determined first transmission ratios. The transmission ratio is then adjusted in dependence upon the selected second transmission ratio. In an advantageous configuration of the invention, a second arrangement is provided with which the second transmission ratio is modified in accordance with a pregiven strategy. The transmission ratio is then adjusted in dependence upon the modified second transmission ratio.

The invention proceeds from a motor vehicle having a drive train and the elements of the drive train are rotatable. The determination of a quantity, which represents the traction resistance, takes place in such a manner that an acceleration quantity is detected. This acceleration quantity represents the instantaneous acceleration of the vehicle. Furthermore, a reference quantity for the acceleration of the vehicle is detected and the quantity, which represents the traction resistance, is determined in dependence upon a comparison of the detected acceleration quantity with the determined reference quantity. The essence of the invention is that a rotation quantity is determined which represents the rotation torque of at least one element mounted in the drive train. The determination of the reference quantity takes place in accordance with the invention in dependence upon the determined rotation quantity. It is especially provided that the rotation quantities of individual elements, which are mounted in the drive train, are determined separately.

A desired value for the output torque is made available by the adjustment of a transmission and by the control of the engine.
