Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for an engine. A condition of the engine may be diagnosed based on information provided by signals from a generator operationally connected to the engine and/or other signals associated with the engine. Different types of degradation may be distinguished based on discerning characteristics within the information. Thus, a degraded engine component may be identified in a manner that reduces service induced delay.

Abstract:
A system and method are provided for correction of parameters used in determination of stator turn faults of an induction motor. An embodiment may include determining a residual impedance and/or a residual voltage of the motor, and correcting a normalized cross-coupled impedance based on the residual impedance and residual voltage. Additional embodiments may include measuring an operating temperature of the motor and determining a negative sequence impedance of the motor based on the temperature. Another embodiment may include measuring voltages and currents of the motor and determining phasors for the voltages and currents using compensation for variations from a nominal frequency of the motor.
Abstract:
A method, system and computer program product for monitoring health of a synchronous machine is provided. The method includes receiving a plurality of phase voltage values and a plurality of phase current values. The method then computes a negative sequence voltage (Vn) based on the plurality of phase voltage values. The method also computes one or more operating parameters based on at least one of the plurality of phase voltage values and the plurality of phase current values. The method retrieves from a data store, one or more known Vn based on the one or more operating parameters. The method then computes a machine health indicator based on the computed Vn and the one or more known Vn, and raises an alarm based on the machine health indicator.
Abstract:
A contactless power transfer system for a mobile asset is presented. The system includes a primary loop disposed adjacent to a location that is coupled to a power source. A secondary receiving coil is disposed on the mobile asset and coupled to a traction motor for receiving power from the primary loop. The power transfer system further includes a field-focusing element that can focus a magnetic field from the primary loop onto the secondary receiving coil, the field-focusing element having a non-linear current distribution.
Abstract:
The present application discloses a process for the high throughput separation of at least one distinct biological material from a sample using magnetic tags and a magnetic separation set up capable of processing at least about 106 units/second. A magnetic field gradient is used to deflect target material bearing a magnet tag from one laminar flow stream to another so that the magnetically tagged target material exits a separation chamber via a different outlet than the rest of the sample. The process is applicable to isolating several distinct biological materials by directing each via magnetic deflection to its own unique outlet. The application also discloses a system for performing the process and a kit that includes the system and the magnetic tags.
Abstract:
A rotor structure for an interior permanent magnet (IPM) electromotive machine is provided. The rotor structure includes at least one rotor lamination including a first group of slots and a second group of slots arranged to form a magnetic pole. The first group of slots may be arranged to form a magnetic flux along a direct axis of the magnetic pole resulting from the first and second group of slots. At least some of the first group of slots is arranged to receive a respective permanent magnet. The second group of slots is arranged to provide a separation for the magnetic flux from adjacent magnetic poles and lying along a quadrature axis of said magnetic pole. At least some of the second group of slots is arranged without a permanent magnet. The rotor structure further includes a magneto-mechanical barrier arranged to reduce a peak level of mechanical stress occurring by the first and/or the second group of slots and/or impede a flow of magnetic flux through the barrier.
Abstract:
A system for detecting and classifying a wheel of a rail vehicle traveling on a railway track includes a plurality of wheel detectors coupled to one rail of the railway track and configured to detect presence of the wheel and to generate signals representative thereof. A processing system is coupled to the wheel detectors and configured to receive and process the signals. The processing system is configured to classify the wheel based on a speed independent classification value calculated based on the signals from the wheel detectors.

Abstract:
A method of monitoring health of a mechanical drive train is provided. The method includes obtaining voltage and current signals from at least one phase of an electrical machine coupled with the mechanical drive train. The method also includes representing the electrical machine having a non-sinusoidal flux distribution as a combination of a plurality of harmonic order sinusoidally distributed virtual electrical machines based on the obtained voltage and current signals. The method further includes determining a torque profile associated with one or more combinations of the sinusoidally distributed virtual electrical machines. Finally, the method includes detecting the presence of an anomaly in the mechanical drive train based on the torque profile or spectrum.
