    摘要: An inexpensive device is provided for quickly and efficiently securing protective panels such as, for example, plywood and the like, to exterior surfaces of buildings to protect windows, doors and/or other vulnerable features from wind and flying debris. The device comprises a stationary base, and a clamping member attached to such base. At least one device of the present invention is mounted to a building in general proximity to a window, door or other feature to be covered with a protective panel; the clamping member(s) secure the protective panels in place against the building. When not in use, the present invention can be maintained in a stowed position.

    摘要: A method on a data processing server for creating customizable electronic documents in a client-server computer network having one or more data processing servers electronically connected to a plurality of data processing clients. In one embodiment, the method provides the sender with the ability of defining, via one or more interface controls, which portions of an electronic bill are changeable and modifiable by one or more recipients. This permits the subsequent users the authority to only modify the fields as controlled by the sender. In another embodiment, the system permits tracking of changes made by each subsequent recipient of the bill compared with the original billing data. In another embodiment, the method provides the recipient a user preference file which controls how the bill is laid-out by the user. The combination of the sender's interface controls and the optional user preference files provides billing data to a plurality of recipients where the permissible fields to be modified or filled in are controlled by the sender and at the same time allow users to view billing data in views defined by each user in a personal preference file. In another embodiment, authenticity and tracking history is added to the customizable electronic bill. The authenticity permits the recipient to verify the sending source and permits the sending source to view and subsequent changes or modifications made by the subsequent recipients. In yet another embodiment, a system is disclosed for carrying out the above method on both a client and a server system.

    摘要: A steering column assembly having an adjustable shroud comprises a fixed portion arranged to be secured to a body of a vehicle and a moving portion which can be moved telescopically relative to the fixed portion, a clamp mechanism which releasably fixes the moving portion in position relative the vehicle body, the clamp mechanism being movable between a first, unclamped, position in which the fixed portion and the moving portion can move relative to one another and a second, clamped, position in which the fixed portion and the moving portion are prevented from relative movement, and a lock mechanism, wherein the assembly is so arranged that when the clamp mechanism is in the first position the lock mechanism limits a range of movement of the moving portion relative to the fixed portion at least in a collapse direction by providing a path for collapse forces from the moving portion through the lock mechanism to the fixed portion, and when the clamp mechanism is in the second position the lock mechanism permits additional telescopic movement of the moving portion towards the fixed portion beyond the limited range of movement by removing the force path.

    摘要: A steering column assembly comprises an inner tube and an outer tube that surrounds the inner tube along at least part of its length, in a relaxed condition the outer tube being a relatively loose fit around the inner tube, an elongate slot in the outer tube which can be at least partially closed by applying a load either side of the slot to cause a reduction in the internal diameter of the tube, a pair of flanges which are fixed to the tube on opposing sides of the slot, and a clamp mechanism which connects one flange to the other, the clamp mechanism being movable between a clamped position in which it applies a clamping force to the flanges that acts to reduce the width of the slot and so tightens the outer tube around the inner tube, and an unclamped position in which the clamping force is reduced to permit the flanges to move away from one another as the tube returns towards its relaxed condition. It further comprises a catch which is secured at one end to one of the flanges and catches a part of the other flange at its other end, the catch preventing movement of the flanges beyond a position in which the inner diameter of the outer tube is equal to a predetermined maximum value.
