摘要: The present invention provides a system and method for collecting fumes from an arc furnace of the type typically used in metal foundries. The system provides an electrode hood with extended sides for improved collection of fumes from the vicinity of the electrodes. It also provides a movable spout hood for collection of fumes when metal is tapped. A combination of a tilting manifold and stationary duct are used to maintain a path for collecting fumes throughout the entire range of motion of the furnace. The stationary duct has a group of dampers that open and close as the furnace tilts. Variable position dampers may be provided at the electrode hood and furnace door. In the bag house, there is a dust containment assembly to limit the movement of the collected dust. A variable speed fan may be used with the system. One method of the invention involves determining the pressure differential upstream and downstream of the filter bag, determining the fan speed, and closing a damper downstream of the filter to clean the filter bag when the determined values for the pressure differential and fan speed match previously set values. The entire system may be controlled by a programmable logic element to maximize efficiency. Another method involves the steps of adjusting the electrode hood damper, spout hood damper and door hood damper in response to furnace conditions.

摘要: The invention provides a method and system for automated sorting or articles such as railroad wheels. After the wheels are inspected and designated as fitting a particular category, the wheels are moved to a transfer car and the wheel and transfer car are moved to a wheel pick up station, where an overhead hoist awaits. As the wheel and transfer car are moved, a hook portion of the hoist is received in the wheel axles hole. The hoist raises the wheel out of the transfer car and then the hoist and wheel move laterally to a wheel drop off station corresponding with the category of the wheel. A shuttle car with an empty wheel receiving slots is below each wheel drop off station. The hoist lowers the wheel into the aligned wheel slot of the appropriate shuttle car for that category of wheel. After the wheel is deposited in the slot, the shuttle car indexes away from the hoist, freeing the wheel and hoist from one another. The hoist is then raised and returned to the wheel pick up station. The process continues until it is desired to remove a group of sorted wheels from one of the shuttle cars. The sorted wheels may be lifted out of each shuttle car as a group and transferred to a desired location.

The supplemental duct lines have high pressure fans, blowers, or compressors and join one of the other duct lines through a nozzle. The nozzle connection acts as a venturi to supplement the pulling power of a common exhaust fan downstream of the baghouse filter.

摘要: The present invention provides a system and method for collecting fumes from an arc furnace of the type typically used in metal foundries. A tilting duct is connected to provide a path for emissions drawn into the hood on the furnace. The tilting duct moves with the furnace. A stationary duct leads to the bag house. The tilting duct and stationary duct meet at an interface and have facing openings that maintain a path for collecting fumes throughout the entire range of motion of the furnace. The stationary duct has a group of dampers that open and close as the furnace tilts to limit air intake to the portion of the stationary duct opening that is adjacent the tilting duct opening. Variable position dampers may be provided at the electrode hood and furnace door. In the bag house, there is a dust containment assembly to limit the movement of the collected dust. A variable speed fan may be used with the system.
