摘要: Systems and methods for cooling a heat-treated metallic part include a plurality of atomization nozzles disposed on a stage and radially disposed about the part to be cooled; and a fluid in fluid communication with the atomization nozzles. The fluid may gas, liquid, or a combination thereof, e.g., water and gas. During use, the atomization nozzles are generally configured to rapidly cool the thicker sections of the part relative to the thinner section since the thicker sections are generally slower to cool. In some embodiments, the stage can be configured to rotate about the part during cooling. Methods are also disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes moving a plurality of outlets in a horizontal direction while the heat-treated part is stationary while directing an air and water mixture from the plurality of outlets onto the heat-treated metallic part

摘要: This invention discloses a method of coating an object while increasing the temper of an object to peak strength. The method of increasing the temper of the object to peak strength includes providing an object having a substantially homogeneous solution of a precipitate hardening composition; and applying an image atop at least a portion of the object, wherein temperature and time of applying the image provide peak strength in the object. The image may be applied to the object surface by dye sublimation. The object may be a vehicle wheel formed of aluminum.

摘要: Steels having a pearlitic structure and containing 0.60 to 1.0 weight percent carbon, 1.1 to 3.0 weight percent silicon, 0.45 to 0.85 weight percent manganese, less than 0.050 weight percent sulfur and less than 0.050 weight percent phosphorus, with the remainder of said steel being iron and incidental impurities, can be used to make railway wheels that are resistant to martensite transformations and, hence, spalling. The addition of 0.50 to 1.0 weight percent chromium to such steels further improves their resistance to spalling.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of producing cast steel railway wheels. After pouring and removal from the mold, the steel wheel is processed in various steps including processing in an annealing and a tempering furnace. The wheel is then passed through a wheel cooling tunnel where the wheel is cooled from approximately 900.degree. F. to about ambient temperature.

摘要: A plurality of treatment station includes a plurality of heat treatment portions and staging portions. The staging portions utilize non-contact temperature sensors to measure an intensity of infrared radiation emitted from a part to be heat treated. A plurality of wavelengths of infrared energy emitted from a part are read with the wavelengths used as inputs to an empirical equation to calculate an apparent actual temperature of the part. The staging portions and the heat treatment portions are shielded to prevent infrared energy from the heat treatment portion from interfering with the accuracy of the staging portions.
