    摘要: A differential with an improved locking mechanism is provided. The differential includes first and second clutch members in the form of a differential case having a first set of teeth and a an axle shaft mounted clutch collar having a second set of teeth. A yoke urges the clutch into an out of engagement and is supported on a pivot shaft. The yoke is selectively urged in one direction by an actuator acting on a lever on the pivot shaft. The lever is coupled to the yoke by a spring. The yoke is urged in an opposite direction by one or more return springs mounted on the same pivot shaft. The compact nature of the locking mechanism and the balance of forces provided by the springs and actuator provide an inexpensive and reliable locking mechanism.

    摘要: A combination valve support and sealing element is used in a filter cartridge in which the filter cartridge includes a filter element within a housing closed by an end plate having a central opening surrounded by an array of radial openings spaced a fixed radial distance from one another. The valve support and sealing element is comprised of a unitary body having an annular sealing lip for sealing with the end cap of the filter element, which sealing lip deflects under oil pressure to allow oil to bypass the filter element if the filter media of the filter element is clogged. An anti-drainback valve is provided by a radial flange projecting from the unitary body, which radial flange overlies the spaced radial openings and prevents fluid from flowing back out of the spaced radial openings when not under pressure. When the fluid is under pressure, the radially projecting flange deflects, allowing oil to flow past the flange, into the housing and through the filter element.

The base has a central opening which is threaded so that the filter element housing mounted as a spin-on housing for use with annular filter elements, the base further having spaced central openings around the threaded central opening. In a preferred embodiment, the base is permanently fixed to the tubular portion by adhesive sealing material disposed between the threads attaching the base and cap to the tubular portion.

    摘要: An improved socket liner for a ball and socket joint is adapted to be fixedly installed within a joint housing so as to encase the ball. The housing defines a longitudinal axis, and the liner, formed in two longitudinally extending mating halves that confront one another along surfaces parallel to the axis of the housing, are oriented to provide a theoretically tightest possible ball bearing-socket fit. Each liner half includes at least one protuberance on each longitudinally confronting surface. The protuberances not only facilitate location of the liner halves during assembly, but also assure a physical separation between the halves, creating an additional lubrication groove for enhanced operation of the joint during its useful life. In one preferred form, a compliant thin soft material cover is overmolded over the exterior socket liner structure, and exterior surface slots integrally provided on the cover interlock with protruding ribs fixed to the interior of the housing.

    摘要: An improved exhaust manifold gasket for sealing between cylinder head port and flanged exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine. The gasket includes an integral heat insulating sleeve for reducing thermal stresses on cylinder head port and gasket body, and is comprised of first and second metal layers fixedly secured together along a unitary plane. An aperture through the gasket provides for passage of high-temperature exhaust gases, wherein the first and second layers define at least one full sealing bead disposed about the circumference of the aperture. The second layer includes a plurality of circumferentially disposed leg portions symmetrically disposed about the exhaust aperture. The leg portions are adapted to receive the attached sleeve, which is positioned orthogonally to the unitary plane and adapted to extend into the exhaust port. The sleeve forms an insulating air gap between its exterior circumference and the interior circumference of the exhaust port.

    摘要: A collar for a clutch, particularly a clutch used in selectively connecting and disconnecting a source of drive torque with a co-axial driven shaft. More particularly, the present invention relates to a collar wherein meshing surfaces of the torque source and the driven shaft are designed such that the collar is under a neutral axial force while under torque. The shift collar is splined to a rotating shaft and is slideable along the direction of the longitudinal axis of the shaft. Translation of the shift collar is preferably performed by means of a shift mechanism in association with a detent ball, used to self-lock the shift collar in place under torque load. When the shift mechanism and detent ball are moved to release the shift collar, the angle teeth and splines cause the shift collar to disengage, even under high torque load.

    摘要: A ball joint for different applications in special car suspension is disclosed. The ball joint includes a pin (1) with a first end for fixing in a counterpart, and a second spherical end (2), that is encased in a bearing (3) of consequently spherical internal profile, that by its turn is mounted in the internal area of a housing (4), whose external area is intended for fixing in a second counterpart. The housing (4) is closed over a retaining ring (5), that by its turn presses the bearing (3) and the pin (1), in such a way as to prevent axial or radial moving between the parts, including the dismounting of the assembly, but allowing rotational and oscillatory movements required for the operation of the assembly. Further, the retaining ring (5) supports the external (6) and the internal (7) sealings, preferably vulcanized, both of the area between the retaining ring (5) and the housing (4) and of the area between the retaining ring (5) and the pin (1). In this area the part of the sealing next to the pin (1) is strained by a sealing ring (8) that produces the desired sealing effect between the parts.

    摘要: A valve stem seal assembly incorporates a cylindrical retainer having an axis and an upper end about which symmetrically and circumferentially arranged, alternating first and second sets of fingers have radially inwardly depending upper ends. The first set of fingers is generally parallel to the axis and the upper ends are generally perpendicular to the axis to engage a first exterior annular groove of an elastomeric seal body. The first set of fingers provides for axial attachment of the seal body to a top of a valve guide. The second set of fingers is generally arcuate and the upper ends extend radially inwardly to engage a second exterior annular groove of the seal body. The second set of fingers eliminates the need for a garter spring used by traditional valve stem seal assemblies by generating a force to urge the sealing lip against a reciprocating valve stem.
