Abstract:
A device for removing toxins from blood or plasma comprising a cartridge containing a polymeric resin having a coating thereon which renders the resin blood compatible. The resin comprises divinylbenzene monomer which has a porosity, pore size, and surface area suitable for absorption of unhealthy components of blood, such as &bgr;-2-microglobulin.
Abstract:
Phenyl cyanates substituted at both ortho positions and further substituted with at least one halo at the meta or para positions are prepared. Then enhance ignition resistance, fire retardance, and toughness of polytriazines when added in varying amounts to polycyanate monomers before cure.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of an aromatic cyanate which comprises (a) preparing in situ a cyanogen chloride by contacting a solution of chlorine in a chlorinated hydrocarbon with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal cyanide at a temperature of 0.degree. C. or below under conditions such that a cyanogen chloride is prepared; (b) physically separating the chlorinated hydrocarbon in which the cyanogen chloride is dissolved from the aqueous layer in which an alkali metal chloride salt is dissolved; and (c) contacting the cyanogen chloride dissolved in the chlorinated hydrocarbon with a hydroxy-substituted aromatic compound dissolved in a chlorinated hydrocarbon, a secondary alcohol or a tertiary alcohol, in the presence of a tertiary amine at a temperature of about 0.degree. C. or less under conditions such that a polyaromatic cyanate is prepared.
Abstract:
A block copolymer composition containing a diblock copolymer blend including a first poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly((trimethylsilyl)methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer; and, a second poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly((trimethylsilyl)methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer. Also provided are substrates treated with the block copolymer composition.
Abstract:
Phosphorus-sulfur compounds have flame retardant activity in organic polymer systems. The phosphorus-sulfur compounds can be represented by the structure: wherein X is oxygen or sulfur, T is a covalent bond, oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen, provided that at least one of X and T is sulfur, each X′ is independently oxygen or sulfur, each m is independently zero or 1 when X′ is oxygen and zero, 1 or 2 when X′ is sulfur, n is at least 1 and preferably at least 2, each R is independently an unsubstituted or inertly substituted hydrocarbyl group or the R groups together form an unsubstituted or inertly substituted divalent organic group and A is an organic linking group.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for floor-plan region creation and placement is provided. Design information may be received. Module area may be estimated for each module in an integrated circuit. Individual module may be selected for regioning, and region size and dimensions for module may be determined. Region parameters may be adjusted prior to final placement and placement may be verified.
Abstract:
A piezoelectric transducer is described that is configured for use within a path length control apparatus of an optical device. The transducer comprises at least one void formed within a central region of the piezoelectric transducer, the one void or alternatively, the multiple voids, utilized at least in part to limit a curvature induced into a mirror during operation of the piezoelectric transducer.
