Abstract:
A correlation confocal microscope uses correlated photon pairs to improve resolution. It employs a source of a light beam converging to a point location on a sample, and an objective that gathers light from the point location and generates an image beam. A modulator applies a spatial pattern of modulation to the source light beam to define spatially correlated photons whose spatial correlations are preserved in modulated light gathered from the sample. A filter applies a modulation-selective filter function to the image light beam to generate a filtered light beam of like-modulated photons. A coincidence detector detects temporally coincident photon pairs in the filtered light beam, generating a pulse output that indicates the magnitude of a light-detectable property (such as transmissivity or reflectivity) of the sample at the point location. The modulator may apply phase modulation and the filter may be a phase-sensitive component such as an interferometer.

An impedance tomography apparatus is disclosed for the measuring of the electrical activity of excitable tissue. The apparatus comprises a plurality of signal transfer devices adapted for transferring an input signal to a body and receiving an output signal from a body. An input signal generator is adapted to generate an electrical input signal and apply it to at least one of the signal transfer devices. A measurement device is arranged to measure the output signal from the body at least one or more of the remaining signal transfer devices, wherein the input signal generator is adapted to generate an input signal of frequency greater than 100 Hz and less that 5 kHz. This allows the depolarisation of nervous or muscle tissue to be imaged.

There is provided a non-water soluble drug delivery composition comprising a conjugate and a polymer matrix wherein exposure of the composition to electromagnetic radiation at a suitable pre-determined wavelength and intensity induces release of the active ingredient from the composition. The conjugate is attached to the polymer matrix through non-covalent interactions. There is also provided a drug delivery apparatus formed from the drug delivery composition.

A representation of a prosthesis opening is created and a device having a marker is tracked through the opening while monitoring the relative positions of the opening representation and the marker on a display. In one alternative, a representation is made on a display of the center of the contralateral stump opening and an electromagnetic marker coil that is secured to an endovascular delivery device, and the marker and delivery device are guided into the opening, while monitoring the relative positions of the opening center and the electromagnetic marker coil representations. In another alternative, one or more markers are positioned in the vicinity of the prosthesis opening and a device having a marker is tracked to the one or more markers and through the opening where the device is one of a guidewire and a catheter, while monitoring the relative position of the markers on a display.
