An optical deflector of an air bearing type has a fixed shaft; a rotary shaft having a hollow portion fitted onto the fixed shaft; a support device disposed between an end portion of the fixed shaft and an end portion of the hollow portion opposite thereto and supporting the rotary shaft in an axial direction thereof; a radial air bearing formed between an inner circumferential face of the hollow portion and an outer circumferential face of the fixed shaft; a polygon mirror fixed to the rotary shaft; a driving device for rotating the rotary shaft; a device for deflecting light irradiated onto the polygon mirror by rotating the rotary shaft through the driving device; a device for forming a flange for fixing the polygon mirror thereto integrally with the rotary shaft; and a device for setting an upper end portion of the support device on a fixed shaft side thereof to be lower than an upper end face of the polygon mirror. The support device has a first magnet directly attached onto an end face of the fixed shaft, a second magnet opposite to the first magnet and attached to the hollow portion of the rotary shaft, and a third magnet opposite to the second magnet and attached to a casing for covering the polygon mirror. Magnetic poles of the first, second and third magnets are opposite to each other to generate magnetic repulsive force.

A method for processing a surface corrects a relationship between a processing condition and a removal quantity (polished removal quantity) or a removal depth (polished removal depth) in accordance with a worked surface to obtain desired removal quantity or removal depth in processing the worked surface irrespective of the shape of the worked surface, forms a reference surface in a simple shape to obtain the relationship between the processing condition and the removal quantity or the removal depth readily, and executes such correction of the relationship between the processing condition and the removal quantity or the removal depth and such correction of unit removal shapes readily for a short time.

An injection mold that is capable of producing a final molded component that meets designed optical properties is designed and produced efficiently by measuring shape errors, which adversely affect the optical properties, of at least one of a surface shape of a cavity of a first molding part and a molded component produced by using the first molding part, by reducing at least one of wavelength components of the shape errors, by generating processing information that is used to produce a second molding part that is used to mold the final molded component.

An embossed component for positioning an article having a through hole includes a planar portion and an embossed portion projecting from a surface of the planar portion. The embossed portion is tapered toward a tip side and to be fitted into the through hole. There is provided a grinding roller for use in a fixing device including a pair of rotary fixing members that rotate while being pressed against each other to form an area of contact, and heat and press a recording medium carrying an unfixed toner image and fed to the area of contact, to thereby fix the unfixed toner image on the recording medium. The grinding roller is configured to grind a surface of a toner image-side rotary member of the pair of rotary fixing members that comes into contact with the unfixed toner image. The grinding roller includes an abrasive grain layer including abrasive grains, forming a surface layer of the grinding roller, and having a surface with irregularities including projections each formed by an aggregate of some of the abrasive grains and larger in size than each of the abrasive grains and recesses formed between the projections.
