When operated, the wall portion with the sealed opening is located at a level that is below the level of the upper end of the translator at least during a part of the movement of the translator.

The present invention relates to a gun for using compressed gas to propel an arrow. The gun comprises a hollow barrel adapted to accommodate the arrow. The barrel has an open rear end and an open front end. The gun also includes a cylindrical chamber having a front end through which the barrel extends, a closed rear end, and a gas inlet for connecting the cylindrical chamber to a source of compressed gas. The cylindrical chamber is adapted to hermetically enclose the open rear end of the barrel and is axially movable between a non-firing position where the closed rear end of the cylindrical chamber sealingly engages the open rear end of the barrel, and a firing position where the closed rear end of the cylindrical chamber is displaced from the open rear end of the barrel to allow compressed gas to pass into the barrel via the open rear end of the barrel so as to propel the arrow out the open front end of the barrel. The gun has a simple and robust construction, and has a well-balanced behavior during use.

The gun further includes a chamber for collecting partly expanded compressed gas after the gas has been used to discharge the projectile, a piston arranged in a housing and being mechanically connected to the hammer, and a channel for directing the partly expanded gas into the housing, so that the gas will force said piston to move, thereby bringing the hammer to a ready-for-fire-position.

Displacement of the piston rod (4) in one direction forces the air in the third chamber (12) into the first and second chambers (8,9) with resulting pressure increase in said chambers (8,9). At the same time, air is sucked into the fourth chamber (16). Upon displacement of the piston rod (4) in the opposite direction, the air in the fourth chamber (16) is forced into the third chamber (12) and further into the first chamber (8). At the same time, the air in the second chamber is forced out through a nozzle (24) via a non-return valve (21,22).
