    摘要: A conference circuit for use in a PCM system. ''n'' channels requiring conference are arranged serially in n-channel frames. Each frame of n channels is sampled by transfer to an n-stage cyclic shift register and circulated through the register once. n-1 of the shift register stages are permanently added to give every possible combination of n-1 of the n channels in a frame as the n channels circulate through the register. Each such combination of n-1 channels is then clearly the conference signal required by the remaining channel subscriber. The various combinations of n-1 channels are then simply distributed to the appropriate ''remaining'' channel subscribers.

    摘要: A P.A.B.X. using reed relay switches having a limited number of ''''service'''' units that are arranged to be brought into use as required. Each of these units has a speech transmission bridge arranged for connection between two different outlets of the main switching matrix of the exchange so as to enable a call connection to be set up through the unit involving two transits of the switching matrix. A free one of these units is taken into use under the manual control of an operator when an indicator lamp on the operator''s switchboard lights to show that there is a call awaiting attention. The operator accepts such a call by operating switches on the switchboard which extends supervisory, speech and control circuits to the allotted unit for the purpose of enabling the call to be supervised. The switchboard is arranged to enable a single operator to supervise up to five call at a time. Alternatively a ''''service'''' unit is automatically taken into use when a party to an existing call wishes to make an ''''inquiry'''' call to another extension without releasing the original call.

    摘要: A pulse-code-modulation synchronizing arrangement for a system using a synchronizing pulse pattern having a first simple portion which occurs commonly at random in the transmitted signal and a second more extensive portion which is highly improbable at random. The receiver, in seeking synchronism, resets its phase at each genuine and false occurrence of the simple portion. Synchronism is confirmed if no further reset occurs during the extent of the second portion (which does not contain the simple portion). The above resetting is on a channel basis: digit synchronism is achieved by slipping a digit periodically with sufficient intervening time to obtain overall synchronism by channel resetting if the digit phase is in fact correct. Loss or absence of synchronism is rapidly determined by the closely repeated presence of the common first portion.

    摘要: A telephone switching system, for example a P.A.B.X., has tandem-connected A, B and C switching stages connected between input speech paths and supervisory units of a plurality of different types which types are utilized for different types of call through the system. Each switching stage consists of a plurality of full-availability reed relay switch units. There is only a single A-B link between each A switch unit and each B switch unit and a single B-C link between each B switch unit and each C switch unit. Selection of a free route through the switching stages between an input path and a free supervisory unit of a particular type to which the path is to be connected is effected by selecting each C switch unit in turn and examining the pairs of links from each B switch unit to the A switch unit to which the line is connected and to the selected C switch unit to ascertain if there is a free route to that C switch unit. When a suitable C switch unit is found, the pairs of links terminating on the individual B switch units are examined in turn to find a suitable B switch unit. Finally, a free supervisory unit connected to the selected C switch unit is chosen and the required connection through the three stages can then be established.
