    摘要: Various turbine component preforms are disclosed having near-net shape features. In one embodiment, a turbine casing preform is disclosed. The turbine casing preform includes an as-cast body comprising a partially cylindrical wall section of a turbine casing, the wall section having an inner surface and an outer surface. The turbine casing preform also includes a circumferentially-extending vane slot formed in the wall section on the inner surface. In another embodiment, a turbine nozzle diaphragm preform is disclosed. The turbine nozzle diaphragm preform includes an as-cast body comprising a partially-cylindrical wall section of a turbine nozzle diaphragm having an inner surface and an outer surface. The turbine nozzle diaphragm preform also includes an as-cast, circumferentially-extending seal member projecting from one of the outer surface or inner surface.

    摘要: A casting process for producing metal alloy castings, facecoats and apparatuses suitable for carrying out the process, and castings produced by the process. The casting process entails the use of a mold having a cavity with a continuous aluminum-containing solid facecoat on its surface. A molten quantity of a metal alloy is introduced into the mold cavity so that the molten alloy contacts the solid facecoat. The mold is then allowed to cool to solidify the molten alloy and form a cast product. During the casting process, aluminum in the solid facecoat diffuses into the cast product to form an aluminum-containing surface region at the casting surface. Following removal of the cast product from the mold, an alumina-containing scale grows on the casting surface as a result of oxidation of the casting surface region.

Generally, an aluminum-containing slurry may be applied to the fuel cell component. The component may then be heated to diffuse aluminum into the component and to form an aluminum diffusion surface layer therein. The surface layer may be characterized by an intermetallic aluminum-containing phase extending below the surface of the fuel cell component.

    摘要: An oxidation resistant component with high temperature strength and a method of creating such component are disclosed. A modified base metal may be formed by adding at least two strengthening additives to a base metal, the base metal being substantially free from both nickel and cobalt and comprising from about 1% to about 27% chromium by weight. The modified base metal may then be formed into a component and an aluminum-containing slurry may be applied to a surface of the component. The component may then be heated to diffuse aluminum into the component and to form an aluminum diffusion surface layer therein.

    摘要: A forging die and process suitable for producing large forgings, including turbine disks and other rotating components of power-generating gas turbine engines, using billets formed by powder metallurgy. The forging die includes a backplate, and segments arranged in a radial pattern about a region on a surface of the backplate. Each segment has a backside facing the backplate and an interface surface facing away from the backplate, with the interface surface being adapted to engage the billet during forging. The segments are physically coupled to the surface of the backplate in a manner that enables radial movement of the segments relative to the backplate.
