摘要: A urine management system for human females comprising a novel collection device, a novel conveyance tube, and a novel storage container is described. The collection device is worn by the user in direct contact with the skin surfaces surrounding the urethral opening being held in place by an undergarment. The collector comprises a thin layer of pliable and water-permeable material through which leaked or voided urine passes and that is underlain by a layer of water-wicking material which may also contain one or more open channels for directing and conveying the flow of urine to a fitting connection with the conveyance tube. The conveyance tube, a novel thin-wall, flat tube, contains a spacer throughout its length to prevent the tube lumen from being completely closed and sealed off by kinks or twists in the tube. The tube can conform to the body shape of the wearer, expands as flow rate increases, and shrinks and flattens as flow drops off. Urine is retained as physically stabilized material in a storage container that can be either replaced and disposed of or emptied and reused with cleaning as needed. Physical stabilization of the fluid urine is accomplished using an absorbent or gel-forming material. The storage container's internal structure also provides a means for unique fluid transfer and retention capabilities. To form the entire system, the devices are serially and contiguously connected to form a continuous liquid pathway that enables removal of residual pools of urine, as well as transport and storage of urine at locations higher than the source.

摘要: Gold, copper, silver, palladium or aluminum and their alloys, but preferably gold or gold alloy, which may be in the form of a wire, has deposited thereon or contained within the wire, a material such as metals or metal alloys which diffuse into the gold or into the other listed metals. With the passage of time and exposure to temperature the deposited metal or metal alloy continues to diffuse into the gold forming intermetallics with the gold and thereby causing the resistivity of the gold to increase and causing the gold to become progressively more brittle until such time as the gold wire ruptures at a stress point. At a given temperature, the elapsed time until rupture takes place depends upon the metal or metal alloys deposited on or contained within the gold. Lead, indium, gallium, tin, bismuth and aluminum and the alloys of these metals diffuse into and form intermetallics with the gold. The time rate of embrittlement of the gold and the other soft metals listed is a function of the metal or metal alloy and the temperature. Gold wires so treated with the metal or metal alloys may be used as time temperature dependent fuses. For example such fuses may be useful for the protection of integrated circuits or systems of integrated circuits wherein the gold wires so treated are used as connections within the circuit or system.

摘要: Method and apparatus for removing sulfur dioxide from stack gases. The stack gases are scrubbed with an aqueous wash liquid containing one or more alkali metal compounds which react to form the bisulfite, sulfite and sulfate salts of the alkali metal. The spent absorbent liquid effluent is then treated with calcium compounds in at least two separate reaction stages, the conditions of ion concentration and pH of the first stage being maintained to favor the precipitation of calcium sulfate in the presence of SO.sub.3.sup.= ions. In the succeeding reaction stages the precipitation of the desired amount of SO.sub.3.sup.= ions is carried out to form calcium sulfite. The resulting compounds of calcium with sulfite and sulfate (which may in part be in the form of mixed crystals) are removed and the regenerated liquid is recycled.

摘要: Novel component devices for urine management systems including a novel collection device, a novel conveyance tube, and a novel storage container. The collection device, a novel male catheter, comprises a waterproof, thin-walled conduction tube surrounding the penis, having wettable internal walls and containing a spacing wick. At one end, the conduction tube is connected to, or surrounded by, an elastic compression tube that provides a uniform compressive force around the girth of the penis for attachment and liquid seal to said penis, and at the other end is attached to a fitting that connects to the conveyance tube. The elastic compression tube is radially expanded prior to donning and, when in place over the penis, is allowed to elastically retract, providing radial compression for comfortable, and leak-free fit and use. The conveyance tube, which carries urine from collector to storage container, contains a spacer throughout its length to prevent the tube lumen from being completely closed and sealed off by kinks or twists in the tube. Said tube may be a thin-wall flat tube that can conform to the body shape of the wearer, can expand in cross-section as flow rate increases, and can shrink and flatten as flow rate drops off. Urine is retained as immobilized material in a storage container that can be either replaced and disposed of or emptied and reused with cleaning as needed. The storage container's internal structure also provides a means for unique fluid transfer and retention capabilities. A system comprised entirely of said novel devices, serially and contiguously connected, forms a continuous liquid pathway that enables removal of residual pools of urine, as well as transport and storage of urine at locations that are gravitationally higher than the source.

摘要: A chemical oxygen or other gas generator which has a container composed of thermally-conductive and gas-impervious material which contains pyrotechnic material, the container being in heat transfer relation with a block of oxygen-producing material for transfer of heat from burning of the pyrotechnic material within the container directly to the block of oxygen-producing material for initiation of decomposition thereof. The container is sealingly attached to the casing so that all of the evolved gases from burning of the pyrotechnic material are segregated from the produced breathable oxygen. The evolved gases are vented from the oxygen generator so as to reduce the ignition chamber pressure and/or allow a greater amount of pyrotechnic material to be burned within the ignition chamber so that a sufficient amount of heat may be generated within the ignition chamber for application to the block of oxygen producing material for initiation of decomposition thereof. This also allows the providing of pyrotechnic material within the space occupied by the oxygen-producing material for initiating decomposition thereof to be desirably eliminated so that a smaller filter capacity is required. The container has a first portion composed of a material which serves as a heat sink for transferring the heat to the block of oxygen producing material of such magnitude and over a period of time to effect initiation of decomposition thereof. A second portion of the container, which is not in direct contact with the pyrotechnic material, is composed of a material for restricting heat transfer to the casing.
